This song was written shortly before or during the "Your Arsenal" recording sessions, which took place in March 1992 at the Wool Hall in Bath, with producer Mick Ronson. Musicians on this recording were Boz Boorer (guitar), Alain Whyte (guitar), Gary Day (bass) and Spencer Cobrin (drums).

This song has been done in concert a total of 130 times by Morrissey. It was played very often at the start of the Your Arsenal tour, but not so much towards the end of it, for a total of 33 performances out of 56 concerts that first year. It was a live staple on the 1999-2000 Oye Esteban tour, played almost every night until 20 February 2000 after which it was dropped for the rest of the tour (total 67 performances for 75 concerts). It was last heard on the Greatest Hits tour when it found itself in the set on a majority of dates from September 2007 to February 2008.
