This song was written shortly before or during the "Your Arsenal" recording sessions, which took place in March 1992 at the Wool Hall in Bath, with producer Mick Ronson. Musicians on this recording were Boz Boorer (guitar), Alain Whyte (guitar), Gary Day (bass) and Spencer Cobrin (drums).

This song has been done in concert a total of 188 times by Morrissey. It was on the setlist each and every night on the 1992 Your Arsenal tour and the subsequent 1995 Boxers tour. The 1995 Southpaw Grammar tour is the only one on which this song was a setlist part-timer, as it was played only 4 times out of 13 concerts. After a break of over 15 years, it returned in force to Morrissey's set in 2011 when it was played to 40 audiences out of 47. It was on the setlist every night without fail the following year, then 14 times in 2013 out of 15 opportunities.
