"Your Arsenal"
collectors appendix

UK CD [HMV CDCSD3790]
The front and back of the UK compact disc are similar to their LP counterparts but the relative size and position of the text, logos and barcode vary slightly (view front and back on the left). Collectors with keen eyes will notice that "D:" and "F:" inside the barcode box are filled with numbers (564 and 520 respectively), which is something usually observed on pan-European editions. The spines are black with grey text just like the back. Each spine states "Morrissey" and "Your Arsenal" on the left in the same fonts as on the front (although the album title is all in uppercase), and the barcode number on the right instead of the expected UK "CDPOP" number. The insert unfolds once horizontally and then once vertically. When unfolded, one side features a gold-tinted photo of Charlie Richardson (view left). The reverse of this insert is all black except for the quarter which becomes the front once folded, and except for the quarter which becomes the back, which is also black but features four lines of credits in a very small grey font at the very bottom and the barcode number in the top right corner, also in grey. The disc is a mix of silver (uncoloured), white and black surfaces. It has a black stripe at the top with "His Master's Voice" in white inside it and five lines of EMI credits and legal warning above. The right side of the disc is white and contains the barcode number, Morrissey's name, the album title, the track listing,"BIEM/MCPS", "Made in U.K.", a credits reference and a label code. There is a black His Master's Voice logo at the bottom and a black compact disco logo on the left.

UK cassette [HMV TCCSD3790]
The cassette artwork shows the usual front image of Morrissey at the top, without any text over it. The remaining space at the bottom is black with Morrissey's name in gold, the album title in grey and a His Master's Voice logo in gold (view left). The spine and back flap are also black with mostly grey text. Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" are found in the middle of the spine in the same font and colour as on the front, but the album title in all in uppercase. There is a His Master's Voice logo at the top and a Dolby logo at the bottom above the barcode number. The back flap features a large barcode at bottom-centre, with the track listing above it, four lines of EMI copyright on the left and two lines of printing/manufacturing credits on the right. The insert unfolds for two extra panels (view left). The first one is black with grey text: track listing and production credit above five lines of additional credits and publishing info in a smaller font. The second panel shows a black and white picture of Boz. The reverse of the insert's front and two panels are used for black and white photos of Gary, Spencer and Alain (view left). The reverse of the spine and back flap were left black. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed onto it. The release identification is found at the top (but no track listing), between the catalogue numbers and EMI copyright on the left and a His Master's Voice logo in the top right corner.

UK/EEC cassette [HMV/EMI TCCSD3790]
An alternate version of the UK cassette is sometimes seen for sale here and there. The insert is exactly the same as described above and the cassette is also made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed onto it. The release identification is also top-centre on the cassette. The two catalogue numbers are also in the top left corner, but "TCCSD3790" is above "7997944" instead of the other way around. There is no His Master's Voice logo in the top right corner; a combined EMI/His Master's Voice logo is instead found on the left side. The words "Made in UK" are found in the bottom right corner but despite this, the cassette is presumed to be a pan-European edition manufactured in the UK because the combined EMI/His Master's Voice logo has also appeared on earlier European Morrissey cassettes such as the EEC edition of "Viva Hate" for example. Any additional information on the subject is welcome.
(This combined logo has also appeared on Australian Morrissey releases, but we can rule out that this cassette is Australian because the Australian cassette of "Your Arsenal" is clearly different to this one - see description below).

UK LP [HMV CSD3790]
The front and back of the UK LP are similar to their compact disc counterparts but the relative size and position of the text, logos and barcode vary slightly (view front and back on the left). The barcode box on the back of the sleeve includes the number "264" which may hint that this LP was also sold in France. The inner sleeve is thick and shows on both sides a gold-tinted image of gangster Charlie Richardson (view left). One side is indented for better access to the record and has the barcode number printed in white in the top right corner. The record bears classic His Master's Voice labels which are black with most of the text in grey. A His Master's Voice logo appears at the very top above "His Master's Voice" in big red letters. The track listing, the catalogue number and various credits are found in the bottom half and a legal warning is printed around the edge.

UK/Europe LP [2001 reissue on Simply Vinyl SVLP244]
The album was re-released on 180g vinyl in 2001 on the Simply Vinyl label alongside "Viva Hate" and LPs by other artists. Not only is the vinyl of high quality but also the sleeve which is very thick and glossy. Just like "Viva Hate", three variations have been reported. Whereas these variations were easily split into UK and Europe variations for "Viva Hate", this is not so obvious with "Your Arsenal". All three variations described below state "Printed in the EU" in the barcode on the back of the sleeve, but the third one also has "Made in the UK" on the back seal sticker. To make this more confusing, the other two variations have also been spotted with more generic "Made in England" stickers on the front and back. All three variations are therefore listed here as "UK/Europe".

UK/Europe cassette [HMV/EMI TCCSD3790]
Description needed.

For all three variations, the front artwork is identical to the front of the original UK LP on HMV, including His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner (view left). The back is similar to the back of the original sleeve but the barcode in the top right corner and the credits at the very bottom were adapted, the His Master's Voice logo was removed and, for the second variation below, a hologram sticker showing the Simply Vinyl logo was affixed to the top left corner. Instead of the usual picture inner sleeve, the record is slipped inside a plain poly-lined white inner sleeve (confirmation needed). Information on the labels is needed. Variations on these labels may inform us on the UK or Europe origins of the three variations described below. The whole thing is packaged inside a thick transparent plastic envelope held shut on the back with a sticker. For the first two variations below, the Simply Vinyl logo and name are branded in the back flap of this envelope. Another sticker on the front of the envelope advertises the limitedness of this release and praises the quality of its packaging. Here is a rundown of the differences between the three variations:

  • golden stickers with black text
The front sticker is rectangular with the following text: Simply Vinyl logo, "S180 Vinyl LP", "Classic Albums", "180g Virgin Vinyl Pressings", "Heavy Quality Sleeves", "www.simplyvinyl.com".
The back sticker is circular with the following text: "Limited Edition", Simply Vinyl logo, "Seal Of Quality", Simply Vinyl web address, "S180 Vinyl LP".
Back flap of plastic envelope is branded with Simply Vinyl logo.
The two lines of credits at the very bottom on the back of the sleeve include the Simply Vinyl web address.
  • silver stickers with black text (front is rectangular)
The front sticker is rectangular with the following text: Simply Vinyl logo, "Limited Edition Vinyl LP", "Classic Albums", "180g Virgin Vinyl Pressings", "Heavy Quality Sleeves".
The back sticker is circular with the following text: "Limited Edition", Simply Vinyl logo, "Seal Of Quality", "Vinyl LP".
Back flap of plastic envelope is branded with Simply Vinyl logo.
The two lines of credits at the very bottom on the back of the sleeve include the Simply Vinyl web address.
  • silver stickers with black text (front is round)
The front sticker is circular with the following text: "Limited Edition Classic Album", between "100% Heavyweight Virgin Vinyl" above and below.
The back sticker is round and states "Seal of Quality" between "Simply Vinyl" above and "Made in the UK" below.
Back flap of plastic envelope is not branded with Simply Vinyl logo.
The two lines of credits at the very bottom on the back of the sleeve do not include the Simply Vinyl web address.

UK promo cassette [Parlophone TCPSC93]
The release of "Your Arsenal" was mainly promoted through its singles and non-musical material such as press release, posters and adverts listed below. However, album track "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side" was included in February 1993 on a various artists promo cassette from Parlophone, alongside material by other artists such as Radiohead, Duran Duran, Queen, Blind Melon, Paul McCartney, Poison, the Sundays, etc. The cassette comes in what appears to be a metallic blue card slipcase showing on the front the Parlophone logo and name in black and white and "February 1993" in white. Information on the rest of the packaging is needed.

UK press release
A press release on A4 Capitol/Parlophone paper served in the promotional campaign for "Your Arsenal". This one-sided press sheet has a Capitol/Parlophone header with black EMI logo in the top right corner, above EMI contact information. The contents are three paragraphs of information, the track listing, then two more paragraphs about the cover artwork and an upcoming appearance at Madstock. It ends with contact information for EMI plugger Murray Chalmers. Another EMI address is given in fine print at the very bottom. It is not known whether or not this was distributed with a promo copy of the album, as no such thing has ever been reported to exist.

UK press photo 20cm x 25cm (8" x 10")
This has been advertised as a press photo used in the promotion of the "Your Arsenal" album, but it is also possible that it served to promote the Your Arsenal tour. It is was indeed used to promote the album, it may have been paired with the press release described above. View here.

UK ordering information card
The exact name of this item is not known. It is approximately the size of a LP. When unfolded, the album artwork is shown on the left page, without any text over it. The right page has black and white text only with the exception of a His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner. Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" are found at the top in white inside a black box. Below are listed the album's release date, prices for the three formats, track listing and ten lines of information (credits? praise?). Front and back information is needed. This may or not be the same as the sales presenter described below (in the next UK sub-section). Information would be appreciated.

UK covermount cassette "Vox Elite" [Vox GIVIT6]
"Glamorous Glue" was included on a covermount cassette given away with an issue of Vox magazine from March 1993. The cassette is made of smokey transparent plastic with pale grey text. It comes inside a card slipcase. The front, back and spine are a golden khaki shade with a mix of black and white text. A list of featured artists is found on the front and the full track listing including credits on the back.

UK promo cd "Parlophone In The City" [Parlophone ITC1]
"Glamorous Glue" was also included on a various artists sampler cd titled "Parlophone In The City" (ITC1), but this was in 1994 or 1995, perhaps to mark repressings of back catalogue material. The disc is packaged in a form of digipack that clamps shut. The clamp is black. The front artwork is black with only the words "Parlophone in the city" in beige or yellow on the front. The reverse of the front panel is dark grey with yellow track listing and grey credits. The disc is silver with a blue and yellow guitar shape. "In The City" and a Parlophone logo are found in yellow at the bottom, and a blue Capitol logo at the 10 o'clock position. Information on the back is needed.

UK LP promo [2001 reissue on Simply Vinyl SVLP244]
The Simply Vinyl reissue from 2001 was promoted via generic copies of the album. Like all other Simply Vinyl promos, it comes inside a generic Simply Vinyl promo sleeve displaying a grey and white swirl on the front and back. The front also has the words "Simply Vinyl Promo LP" in white at the top and "Simply Vinyl" at the bottom. The back only has the mirror image of the latter words at the bottom, giving the impression that the sleeve is transparent (the back grey swirl is also a mirror image of the one on the front). Information on the inner sleeve is needed. The labels are plain white ones (confirmation needed).

§

UK advance cassette [Abbey Road]
An Abbey Road cassette served administrative in-house purposes ahead of the release of "Your Arsenal". The insert is a generic Abbey Road one. Its front shows Morrissey's name, the album title and the track listing over the pale grey and yellow Abbey Road logo. Information on the back of the insert is needed. The spine probably shows the Abbey Road logo and release identification (confirmation needed). The tape is a chrome Transco TRII C20, made of smokey transparent plastic. The white sticker labels have the black and yellow Abbey Road logo on the left and Morrissey's name and the album title are typewritten or printed on them.

UK early in-house cassette [Mayfair]
This cassette which very likely comes from the very early stages of putting "Your Arsenal" together features the songs "You're The One For Me, Fatty" and "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful". The cassette is a commercial type II TDK SA60 with sticker label stating "Morrissey: Mixmasters to date". The insert is a generic Mayfair Studios one with Mayfair Studios logo at the top on the front, the studios name at the bottom on the spine, and the studio contact information on the back flap. The titles of the two featured songs was handwritten on the front by Morrissey.

UK sales presenter
A gatefold glossy sales presenter from EMI has been seen for sale where collectors shop. It features EMI's marketing strategy for "Your Arsenal". Additional information and/or images needed.

UK LP artwork proof
Some lucky collector has managed to get his/her hands on early proofs of the front and back artwork. Both show only the images as they appear on the front and back of the album, without any print. The space around the images is filled with blue Morrissey handwriting detailing the position of his name, album title and HMV logo on the front, and track listing and credits on the back. The handwritten words "This Tone This Exact Crop" are found in big letters in the top right corner on each side.

UK LP inner sleeve proof
A proof of the LP's inner sleeve has made it into the hands of collectors. It shows the unfolded front and back, bottom to bottom, with colour reproduction bar at the top.

UK cd and cassette proof
A large proof sheet of the cd and cassette inserts has made it out there. It shows the full unfolded cd insert, the unfolded cd back+spine insert, and both sides of the unfolded cassette insert. A colour reproduction bar is found above the cd insert portion.

UK proof for magazine ad
A proof for the ad mentioned above has made it into the world of collecting. It shows a black and white version of the ad with the date "16-JUL-92" printed at the bottom, and a bit of handwriting, also at the bottom.

Australia CD [EMI Australasia 799794-2]
The Australian cd does not differ much from its UK counterpart. The front artwork is the same as in the UK. Actually the whole insert is exactly the same. Logos for His Master's Voice and EMI were added in the bottom left corner on the back tray inlay and a EMI Music Group Australasia credit was added beneath the EMI credit at the bottom. The barcode box was cropped, leaving only the barcode per se and the catalogue number above it. The disc was modelled on the UK disc, but all the surfaces that are white in the UK were made golden brown and all the text beneath the track listing was erased.

Australia cassette [EMI Australasia 799794-4]
The Australian cassette shows the UK version of the artwork on the front, including a His Master's Voice logo at the bottom (view left). The spine is black with a barcode right-of-centre. Morrissey's name is found on the left of this barcode in the same colour and font as the front, above "Your Arsenal" in a different grey font. The catalogue number is found at the very top, and logos for His Master's Voice, XDR and Dolby at the bottom, all in grey. The back is also black with mostly grey text, and it is full. It features mainly the track listing including songwriting credits, above an EMI copyright set between EMI and His Master's Voice logos, and an EMI Music Group Australasia credit, a legal warning and a Dolby credit. The album title is found at the very top in grey, above Morrissey's name in golden brown. The catalogue number is printed in grey in the top right corner. The insert's two extra panels and its reverse are the same as in the UK. The cassette is made of clear plastic and text is printed directly onto it in pale grey. There is a track listing at the top, a retro-style His Master's Voice logo on the left, the catalogue number on the right beneath the side identification, and logos for Dolby and XDR at the bottom.

§

Australia press photo 20cm x 25cm (8" x 10")
The Australian press photo is the same as the UK one described above, but there is an EMI Australia logo and the date "Sept. '92" in the bottom right corner. View here (better image needed).

Brazil CD [EMI-Odeon 799794 2]
The Brazilian cd does not show the His Master's Voice logo on the front, just like the USA cd, but Morrissey's name is positioned slightly lower than in the USA (view left). The back features the usual back photo but this is where the similarities end. The track listing is printed in a different font and includes the publishing numbers for each song. There is a white box in the top right corner where the barcode is usually positioned. Its only content is the catalogue number printed in black at the top of it. A thick black stripe was added at the bottom, covering the space where the personnel credits and EMI copyright are usually found. At the bottom of the stripe are printed two lines of Brazilian distribution credits, between logos for Compact Disc and EMI, all in white. Information on the spines is needed. The insert unfolds into a mini-poster showing a gold-tinted image of Charlie Richardson, just like in the UK. When folded, the back of the insert is the same as in the UK except for the catalogue number in the top right corner which was changed for the Brazilian one. The disc is silver (uncoloured) with black text. Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" are found at the top in the same font as on the front, the track listing is on the right, a Parlophone logo and the catalogue number at the bottom, logos for Compact Disc and EMI on the left above a Portuguese legal warning, and a EMI Odeon distribution credit around the outer edge.

Brazil cassette [EMI-Odeon 799794 4]
Information needed.

Brazil LP [EMI-Odeon 799794 1]
The Brazilian LP shows the same artwork on the front as the UK LP, but there is no His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner (view left). The back was modelled on the back of the UK sleeve but the barcode box is empty white space with only the catalogue number printed at the top, a EMI logo was added in the bottom left corner and EMI-Odeon credits were added at the very bottom. On close inspection it appears that the main text was printed slightly higher than everywhere else. The record is slipped inside an anti-static inner sleeve very prone to wrinkling. The labels are black with pale grey text. A Parlophone logo appears at the top, above the album title and Morrissey's name. There is a two-line EMI-Odeon credit on the left, the catalogue number on the right, and the track listing including songwriting credits and publishing numbers at the bottom, above production credits and a copyright. A Portuguese legal warning is printed around the outer edge.

§

Brazil LP promo [EMI-Odeon 799794 1]
The main promotional tool for "Your Arsenal" in Brazil seems to have been stock copies of the LP with a white and red promo sticker on the back of the sleeve. The promo warning states "Advertencia: Produto Invendável Amostra Grátis Tributada Exclusivamente Promocional".

Brazil promo LP [EMI-Odeon ??]
The release of "Your Arsenal" was also promoted with the inclusion of "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" on a various artists promotional LP or EP also featuring material by Brian May, Sinéad O'Connor, Blur, Peter Gabriel, Thunder etc. Information on the packaging of this item is needed.

Canada CD [Sire/Reprise CD-26994]
The Canadian compact disc was mostly modelled on its American counterpart. Its front features the expected compact disc variation of the artwork without the His Masters Voice logo (view left). The back is just like the back of the American cd, but the two lines of American credits at the bottom were replaced with two lines of Sire/Warner Music Canada credits. The spines also show Morrissey's name and the album title in the same font as on the front (but in grey), between the catalogue number and "Sire/Reprise". The insert is very glossy, it unfolds twice like its UK and American counterparts, but the Charlie Richardson image appears in black and white which is only the case in the USA. The back of the folded insert has the same five lines of credits at the bottom as in the USA, including management and Sire credits not found in the UK edition, and the catalogue number is in the top right corner, but all this text is printed in white instead of grey and the catalogue number appears in a bigger, bolder font. The disc is yellow with blue text just like the American disc. A few minor changes were made to the text on it: the Reprise and WEA manufacturing credits on the right were deleted and the catalogue number adapted and printed in a bigger, thicker font; a Warner Music Canada credit was added around the bottom edge.

Canada CD [Columbia House W2 26994; record club edition]
This record club edition differs from the standard retail edition described above by a few details here and there on the disc and its packaging. The front artwork was not retouched. The barcode on the back was changed and includes the Columbia House order number. The credits at the bottom were changed to take into account the involvement of Columbia House and are printed in white instead of the usual less-constrasting shade. The catalogue number on the spine was changed for the Columbia House one. The Sire/Reprise catalogue number on the right-hand side of the disc was replaced with the Columbia House catalogue number, "CRC" and a Columbia House distribution credit.

Canada cassette [Sire/Reprise 92 69944]
As always, the Canadian cassette was modelled on the American one. Just like in the USA the front artwork lacks the His Master's Voice logo at the bottom (view left). The spine is the same as in the USA but the catalogue number was changed for the Canadian one and the Sire and Reprise logos are printed in white instead of grey. Similarly, the only change on the back flap is the American Sire address replaced with the Warner Music Canada address, again in white instead of grey. Information about the insert's extra panels and its reverse is needed. The cassette itself is made of black plastic with pale grey text printed directly onto it. The text and its layout is more or less the same as in the USA (track listing at the top, Sire/Reprise logos and catalogue number on the left, etc), but the font and the relative size of every item are not quite the same.

§

Canada CD sampler [Warner PROC 92150]
The release of "Your Arsenal" was partly promoted with the inclusion of the single mix of "Tomorrow" on a various artists radio sampler from Warner. The sampler is dated September 1992 and features material by other artists such as Little Texas, 808 State, Mike Oldfield, Faith No More, etc. Information on the packaging is needed.

Chile cassette [?]
The front of this edition features its own unique variation of the artwork. The image of Morrissey takes the whole space on the front of the insert, and Morrissey's name and the album title were moved over its bottom right corner, in the same font and colour as usual. Information about the rest of the packaging and about the cassette itself is needed.

EEC/Germany LP [EMI 799794-1]
This LP is credited as being "Printed in Germany" (in the barcode box on the back of the sleeve) and "Made in the EEC" (on the labels). It features the UK LP artwork on the front (view left). The back of the sleeve was closely modelled on the back of the UK sleeve, but changes were made in the barcode box: there is no nothing in the "F:" box but the "D:" box was filled with "064", the words "Printed In Germany" replace "Printed In UK" and a EMI logo was added in its bottom right corner. The record is slipped in a picture sleeve showing on both sides a gold-tinted image of Charlie Richardson, with the catalogue number printed in white in the top right corner on one side, just like in the UK. However, unlike the UK inner sleeve, this one is made of paper instead of card and is not indented for easier access to the record. The record bears blue labels with black text. There is a His Master's Voice logo at the top of them, above the album title. A labels code, a BIEM/GEMA logo, the catalogue number and a EMI copyright are found on the left, the RPM and a production credit on the right, the track listing including songwriting credits in the bottom half and legal warnings in English and German around the outer edge. The German portion actually ends with "Made In EEC".

§

EEC/Germany LP test pressing [EMI 799794-1]
The test pressing for the above item has generic beige labels with black printed text: "Unverkauflich Musterplatte" on the left, the side identification on the right and a legal warning around the bottom edge. The record comes inside a white poly-lined paper sleeve opening from the top, with a "EMI MUSIC COLOGNE Records Muster" information sticker on the front. The sticker also gives the catalogue number and the date "1? ?? 1992".

Germany promo cd "Hot Shots Nr. 4/92" [EMI Germany 2CD 519214]
The release of "Your Arsenal" was promoted in Germany with the inclusion of "Glamorous Glue" on this various artists 2-cd promo sampler from EMI Germany. The front artwork is mostly blue with only the image of an aeroplane and its smoke trail. There's a white EMI Germany logo at the top, above the yellow and red "Hot Shots" logo, "Nr. 4/92" in white, "2CD BOX" in yellow and "For Promotion Only" in white at the bottom. The back is blue and filled with white text. The track listing takes most of the space, and an EMI Electrola GmbH credit, the catalogue number and an EMI Germany logo are at the bottom. The spines are white with black text: catalogue number on the left and title on the right. The discs are silver with black text printed directly onto them. The Hot Shots logo is at the top, track listing on the right, various logos and technical data such as the catalogue number on the left, copyright, legal warning and label code at the bottom. "Glamorous Glue" is found on cd #1.

§

Germany LP test pressing [EMI 799794-1]
See EEC/Germany LP test pressing above.

Greece LP [EMI Greece 799794-1]
The Greek LP shows the UK variation of the LP artwork on the front (view left). The back is exactly the same as the back of the UK LP sleeve but the words "Printed In UK" were deleted from the barcode box and there are three additional Greek words (presumably a printers credit) printed sideways in the bottom right corner. The record is slipped in a card picture sleeve showing on both sides a gold-tinted image of Charlie Richardson, with the catalogue number printed in white in the top right corner on one side, just like in the UK. However, unlike the UK inner sleeve, this one is not indented for easier access to the record. The labels are red with a mix of black and yellow text. There is a big retro-style EMI/His Master's Voice logo at the top, above Morrissey's name and the album title in black. The catalogue number is on the left and the track listing, publishing info and copyright in the bottom half, all in black. Yellow EMI Greece credits and legal warning are printed around the edge.

Greece cassette [HMV 7 99794 4]
The insert of this edition is exactly the same as in the UK except for the text on the spine which is white instead of silver. The back of the case is made of black instead of clear plastic so the cassette is not visible when the case is closed. When sealed, there is an official Greek copyright paper seal around the cassette. Information about the cassette itself is needed.

§

Greece LP test pressing [EMI Greece 799794-1]
Test pressings of Greek releases are not very common and this is probably the only Morrissey one ever reported. The record has generic white labels with the words "ΔΕΙΓΜΑ ΜΗ ΕΜΠΟΡΕΥΣΜΟΝ" at the top, above eight lines to be filled in with release identification. This has been spotted inside a stock sleeve as well as in a white generic sleeve. It comes with a Minos-EMI 'Label Copy' information sheet.

Holland CD [EMI 799794-2]
The Holland cd was the standard compact disc edition for most of continental Europe. It differs from the UK cd by only a few minor details. The front is identical to the front of the UK cd (view left). The remainder of the booklet and the spines are also identical. The barcode box on the back states "Printed in Holland" instead of "Printed in UK". There are actually two different variations of the back tray inlay, as on some copies there is nothing in the "D:" and "F:" boxes beneath the barcode, and on some other copies "F:" includes the French price code PM 520. The disc differs from the UK disc by the additional "BIEM/STEMRA" publishing credit and "Made In Holland" beneath the Compact Disc logo on the left side, and by the incorrect credit "Trk 1 taken from the forthcoming album Your Arsenal" in place of "BIEM/MCPS" and "Made in U.K." beneath the track listing.

Israel cassette [CBS/Capitol 99794-4]
The Israel cassette shows the UK variation of the cassette artwork on the front (view left). Actually, the whole insert is the UK one (see description above). The only difference between this edition and the UK one is the cassette itself, which is made of white plastic and has blue text printed directly onto it. Morrissey's name and the album title are at the top, the catalogue number in the top left corner, a Capitol logo in the bottom left corner, "ACEM/BIEM" and a Dolby logo in the top right corner, side number in the bottom right corner.

Italy CD [EMI 799794-2]
The Italian cd features the UK variation of the compact disc artwork on the front (view left). Actually, the complete insert is perfectly identical to the UK one (see description above) except for the golden image of gangster Charlie Richardson which came out a bit more reddish than elsewhere. The back tray inlay would also be the same as in the UK if it wasn't for a few minor changes made inside the barcode box: "Made in UK" was replaced with "Made in Italy", the "D:" and "F:" boxes were left empty, an additional "I:" box was squeezed in between the latter and the "UK:" box and filled with the number "084", and a EMI logo was added in the bottom right corner. The spines were also left untouched. Finally, the disc also differs only slightly from its UK counterpart. The catalogue number, the publishing credit (BIEM/MCPS), "Made in U.K." and the label code were erased from the white section on the right while the Italian counterpart to most of this erased information (including publishing credit BIEM/SIAE) was added inside a 4-quadrant box above the Compact Disc logo on the left.

Italy LP [EMI 799794-1]
The Italian LP features the UK variation of the LP artwork on the front (view left). The back of the sleeve would be the same as the back of the UK sleeve if it wasn't for a few minor changes made inside the barcode box: "Printed in UK" was replaced with "Made in Italy", the "D:" and "F:" boxes were left empty, an additional "I:" box was squeezed in between the latter and the "UK:" box and filled with the number "064", and a EMI logo was added in the bottom right corner. The labels recall the ones on the EEC/Germany LP described above, although there are still somewhat different. They are blue with black text. At the top of them is a His Master's Voice logo, above Morrissey's name and the album title. A EMI copyright and "Made in Italy" are found on the left, the catalogue number and a SIAE box on the right, the track listing including songwriting credits in the bottom half above production credits, and an English language legal warning is printed around the outer edge.

Italy cassette [HMV 7 99794 4]
The front and spine of this edition are the same as those of its UK counterpart. The back is similar but the printing credit was replaced with an XDR logo, the barcode was extended with a "I:264" section and the credits within its white box end with "Printed in Italy". Some copies have "PM 464" inside the "F:" section of the barcode box, other don't. The cassette itself is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed directly onto it. Album identification is found at the top on each side, HMV and Dolby logos on the left, side "lato" letter and catalogue number on the right, and credits at the bottom. Information about differences found on the insert is needed.

Italy LP promo [EMI 799794-1]
Copies of the stock LP were made into promotional items by being pin-stamped in the bottom left corner with the words "Campione Gratuito".

Japan CD [Toshiba TOCP-7273]
The Japanese cd comes in a regular jewel case with white plastic tray. It bears the usual cd variation of the artwork on the front, without the His Master's Voice logo but with the catalogue number in a very small white font in the bottom right corner (view left). The back was modelled on the back of the UK cd, but there is no barcode in the top right corner and the personnel credits were moved up at the same level as the Mick Ronson credit to make space for additional Japanese credits at the bottom. There are also additional logos in the bottom corners, a EMI one on the left and a Compact Disc one on the right. The spines both state the catalogue number, Morrissey's name and the album title, but the left spine does it in Japanese and the right one in English. The obi is black with a mix of white and golden brown text and a grey EMI logo on the front. There is less English language text on this obi than on the ones that came with earlier Morrissey releases. The back of this obi has a white track listing and the barcode. The packaging includes two inserts. One is modelled on the insert found in other international editions, it is also folded in four and unfolds into a golden mini-poster of Charlie Richardson. When folded its reverse shows the usual four lines of credits at the bottom, but they are positioned slightly higher than usual to make space for additional EMI logo and credit. There is no catalogue number in the top right corner of that surface. The other insert is a proper booklet. Its front is all black with Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" in the middle in the same font as on the front, but in white, and there is a small white catalogue number in the top right corner. The reverse of the front cover shows five black and white photos: one at the top of Morrissey drinking water in a recording studio, and the other four at the bottom are cropped versions of the photos of Morrissey's musicians usually seen on the cassette insert (view left). The first page gives the album's track listing in English and Japanese above five lines of credits in English. This is followed by a Japanese language article about Morrissey over three pages, then nine pages of bilingual lyrics. Interspersed in there are two recent press shots of Morrissey. The back of the booklet is all black except for one line of EMI credits in white at the very bottom. The disc was modelled on the UK disc but the black horizontal stripe at the top does not include the usual "His Master's Voice", the few lines of credits above this stripe were adapted, the barcode number was replaced with both the Japanese and international catalogue numbers, the label code at the bottom on the right was replaced with a Jasrac logo, the His Master's Voice logo at the very bottom was removed and a EMI logo was added beneath the Compact Disc one on the left. The incorrect credit "Trk 1 taken from the forthcoming album Your Arsenal" is found in the bottom right area as on the Holland cd.

Japan CD [1998 reissue on Toshiba TOCP-3421]
"Your Arsenal" is one of two albums by Morrissey to be have been given the reissue treatment in Japan in 1998 (the other one being "Viva Hate"). A few changes were made here and there in the packaging, all minor ones except for the obi which was changed for a generic obi from the "Cool Price British Rock Series" reissue programme. It is pale blue with mostly black text, a Cool Price logo at the top and yellow price at the bottom. As usual the track listing and barcode are found on the back of it. The remaining changes are minor ones. The catalogue number in the bottom right corner on the front as well as on the spines and on the front of the booklet was changed for the new one. A few expected minor changes were made in the credits at the bottom of the back tray inlay and at the bottom of the inserts. The catalogue number was changed on the disc and the "forthcoming album" miscredit at the bottom was finally removed.

Japan CD promo [Toshiba TOCP-7273]
Promo copies are stock ones with a white and red promo sticker on the back tray insert and the words "Sample Not For Sale" stamped in white around the disc's inner ring.

Japan advert 18cm x 25cm (7" x 10")
This black and white advert is split in two vertically. The left half shows a cropped image of Morrissey at Tench Street. The right half is an illustrated discography of Japanese Morrissey releases over a white background. At the top under the header "Now On Sale" is "Your Arsenal". Beneath it are Morrissey's three earlier albums, "Viva Hate", "Bona Drag" and "Kill Uncle", followed by the singles "Suedehead", "Interesting Drug", "Ouija Board, Ouija Board", "November Spawned A Monster" and "Our Frank" (which means that the missing "Sing Your Life" and "My Love Life" must have been sold out). Image needed.

Poland cassette [Mag Magic MM 0967]
Just one look at the packaging of this cassette is enough to establish that this is an unlicensed edition. The usual front image was severely cropped, keeping basically only its right half. Morrissey's name was added sideways in tall white letters on the right, and the album title in yellow over the bottom part, above various white logos such as the one for Mag Magic. The spine and back are beige. The spine has Morrissey's name in white above "Your Arsenal" in yellow, with the black and white Mag Magic logo at the top and the catalogue number in black at the bottom. The back features a track listing printed in black and nothing else. The track listing is repeated on the reverse of the insert which is all white with black text. The Mag Magic logo, "ZAIKS/BIEM", Morrissey's name and the album title are found at the top and the catalogue number at the bottom, also in black over white. The cassette is made of clear plastic with white text printed onto it. It features the Mag Magic logo and name at the top and a bit of Polish text at the bottom, but nothing related to the contents.

Russia CD [(no label or cat no)]
This unlicensed edition combines the albums "Your Arsenal" and "Kill Uncle" on one compact disc, with outer artwork based mostly on that of "Your Arsenal". The front artwork is modelled on the front of the usual "Your Arsenal" cd artwork, but there is no His Master's Voice logo, "Your Arsenal" is rewritten in a similar white font and "Kill Uncle" was added on the right side in the same white font. The back shows the "Your Arsenal" back photo of Morrissey teasing the crowd with his microphone, but the text was completely rewritten in a similar white font. The track listing for "Your Arsenal" is found on the left of the image, the track listing for "Kill Uncle" on the right side, a "1992 & 1991" copyright in the bottom left corner and three lines of Russian credits in the bottom right corner. The spines are both black and give Morrissey's name as well as "Your Arsenal" / "Kill Uncle" in the same white font. The tray is transparent which means that the reverse of the back tray inlay is visible through it. The line "Two originals albums in One CD" [sic] is visible through the spine and an image of Morrissey from the "Kill Uncle" front artwork, but set over a black background, is visible behind the disc. The 6-page booklet opens on a copper-tinted version of the Charlie Richardson image usually found elsewhere as a mini-poster in the cd booklet and on the inner sleeve of LPs. The next page shows a cropped version of the usual cd back artwork, including "Your Arsenal" track listing on the left and personnel credits at the bottom, but without the EMI credit and barcode box. The next page shows the American version of the Kill Uncle artwork (with orange title). The lyrics from the latter edition's insert were pieced together and reproduced in black and white over the next three pages. The alternate image of Morrissey with one arm outstretched and one arm folded on himself, the one usually found inside the "Kill Uncle" cd insert, is reproduced over a black background on the back of the booklet. The disc is yellow with blue text just like the American "Your Arsenal" disc, but its text is completely different. Morrissey's name and the two album titles appear at the top, a bit of text/credits on the left and right, and the track listing at the bottom.

Saudi Arabia cassette [Thomsun EN-4797]
The insert of this unlicensed edition shows the usual LP artwork on the front, over a white background. Morrissey's name appears in big blue letters and the album title in red above it, both in unrelated fonts. The Thomsun Original name/logo appears over the artwork in empty gold letters, and beneath it in reddish pink. The spine and back flap are pale blue with mostly black text. Morrissey's name and the album title are found one above the other in pink on the spine, with "Thomsun Original" in black on the left and the catalogue number on the right. The track listing is printed on the back. "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" was moved from the beginning of side 2 to the end of side 1, and "November Spawned A Monster" was added at the end of side 2. The cassette is a Maxell UD1 46 made of black plastic and bears commercial black, white and green Maxell sticker labels with Morrissey's name as well as the album title and catalogue number printed in the empty space at the top of them.

Turkey cassette [EMI/Kent Elektronik TCP2576]
Instead of going for the usual cassette artwork, the makers of this Turkish cassette recreated new artwork by, presumably, cropping that of the compact disc. The usual image of Morrissey was cropped to remove most of the background. Morrissey's name appears at the top in the same font and colour as usual, above the album title which was rewritten in a white script font similar to the original. Both partly overlap the image. The spine and back are mostly white with black text. The spine gives Morrissey's name and the album title in unrelated fonts, with a Kent logo at the top and the catalogue number at the bottom. A track listing and contact information for Kent Elektronik are found on the back flap. The insert does not have any extra panel. Information on its reverse is needed. The cassette is made of clear plastic with blue text printed directly onto it. Morrissey's name and the album title appear at the top on each side of it in the same font as on the front, and there is a Kent logo on the left.

Uruguay cassette [EMI 501821-4]
This unlicensed edition features the UK compact disc artwork (view left) on the front, between white stripes above and below. Morrissey's name and the album title are found above that, and a Dolby logo below, all in white over a dark green background. The white stripes carry over to the dark green spine. Morrissey's name and the album title are printed in white between them, above a Dolby logo. A EMI logo is found at the top and the catalogue number at the bottom. The insert's back flap is white with green track listing and nothing else but some number. The insert has one extra panel and this additional space is used for the album's track listing and a few lines of songwriting and EMI credits, all printed in black over white. The cassette is made of white plastic and bears deep yellow labels featuring release identification and track listing in black at the top, black catalogue number and red EMI logo on the left, red "Stereo" and Dolby logo on the right and four lines of red legal fine print at the bottom.

USA CD [Sire/Reprise 9 26994-2]
The American compact disc features the usual front artwork without the His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner (view left). The back was modelled on the back of the UK cd, but the barcode needed to be adapted and logos for Sire, Reprise, Compact Disc as well as "ADD" were added beneath it. The EMI copyright at the bottom was changed for a Sire/Reprise credit and legal warning. The spines are dark grey with pale grey text. They both state Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" in the same font as on the front, between the catalogue number and "Sire/Reprise". The insert unfolds in the same fashion as the UK insert, once horizontally then once vertically. One side features an image of gangster Charlie Richardson just like in the UK, but in this case it is black and white instead of being saturated in gold (view left). When folded, the back of this insert shows the usual credits in grey at the bottom, but these are justified to a wider margin and include an additional credit for management and a Sire copyright. The catalogue number is also found in the top right corner of that surface, but it is of course the American one. Special attention was given to the design of the disc. While the discs in all of Morrissey's earlier American releases were plain silver with black text, this one is yellow with blue text like the Sire labels on American LPs. A blue Sire logo is found at the top, a block of publishing info on the left, Reprise and Compact Disc logos as well as Sire/Reprise credits and the catalogue number on the right, release identification and track listing at the bottom.

USA CD [Columbia House W2 26994; record club edition]
This record club edition differs from the standard retail edition described above by a few minor details. The barcode on the back was changed and an additional Columbia House credit was added above the usual one at the very bottom. The Sire/Reprise catalogue number on the spine and on the right-hand side of the disc was changed for the Columbia House catalogue number.

USA CD [BMG Direct D163794; record club edition]
This record club edition only differs from the standard retail edition described above by a few details on the disc and its packaging. The front artwork is the same (view left). The barcode on the back was removed and in its white box was printed a BMG Direct catalogue number and credit. The latter catalogue number was also added in white in the top left corner on the back of the booklet, as well as on the left-hand side of the disc along with an additional paragraph of BMG Direct Marketing credits.

USA CD longbox
Until about 1992-1993, compact discs were sold in the USA in tall picture boxes featuring their own variation on the album artwork. Many were destroyed after purchase, but some were salvaged and ended up in fans' collections. This is actually the final Morrissey release to have been made available in one of those boxes. View front and back of the "Your Arsenal" longbox. The spines are also black with grey text. On them are found Morrissey's name and the album title in the same fonts as on the front, between the catalogue number and "Sire/Reprise".

USA cassette [Sire/Reprise 9 26994-4]
The American cassette features the usual front artwork without the His Master's Voice logo at the bottom (view left). The spine and back are black with mostly grey text. The spine shows Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" in the same fonts and colours as on the front, between the catalogue number and a Dolby logo at the top and Sire and Reprise logos at the bottom. The back flap features a barcode at bottom-centre, with the track listing above it and a Sire address at the bottom on the right. The rest of the insert is very much like the UK cassette insert. The first panel also features the track listing and production credit above a few lines of additional credits and publishing info in a smaller font, but the latter credits are slightly extended and take six lines instead of five. The next panel features the expected photo of Boz, but his name at the bottom appears in white instead of the UK's silver. The reverse of the insert also shows the photos of Gary, Spencer and Alain with the remaining space all black, but Sire and Reprise logos, the catalogue number and three lines of Sire/Reprise and Dolby credits were added in white on the reverse of the back flap. The cassette itself is made of clear plastic and has the text printed in pale grey onto it. The track listing appears at the top on each side, and Sire and Reprise logos and catalogue number on the left.

USA cassette promo - blue insert [Sire/Reprise 4-26994]
The release of "Your Arsenal" in the USA was preceded with the distribution of this promotional cassette in blue promo insert with black text. The cassette is made of clear plastic with white text: Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" at the top, catalogue number on the left, side identification on the right, and Dolby logo, WEA Manufacturing Inc credit and Digalog logo at the bottom. The front of the insert gives Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" above the track listing for side A on the left and side B on the right, and "Reprise Records" in the bottom left corner. Morrissey's name and "Your Arsenal" are repeated on the spine, next to the catalogue number and logos for Sire and Reprise. The back flap only has a promo warning and the telephone number for WEA Manufacturing Inc. There are actually two slight variations on this insert. Most copies have logos for Digalog and Dolby HX Pro in the top right corner on the front, but some copies also have the additional words "Tape: Metal Particle (Use normal of 120 µs Eq.)" in the top left corner.

USA cassette promo - pink insert [Sire/Reprise 4-26994]
This promotional cassette presumably served advance, more limited promotional purposes. Its packaging is similar to that of the above promo cassette, but the insert is pink with black text. Nowhere on this item is the album title mentioned. Morrissey's name appears at the top on the front, next to the catalogue number, and above the track listing for sides one and two as well as a promo warning between Sire and Reprise logos. The spine shows Morrissey's name and the catalogue number between Sire and Reprise logos. The back only gives the address for Sire/Reprise in Burbank, CA. The cassette is made of clear plastic and bears white paper labels with black text. Morrissey's name appears at the top on each side, next to the catalogue number and above the side's track listing. There are Sire and Reprise logos in the bottom left and right corners respectively, on each side of a Sire/Reprise credit and a promo warning.

USA cassette promo 2-track [--]
This 2-track cassette featuring "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side" and "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday" was given away at events such as instore appearances during the week preceding the release of the album. The cassette has very minimal packaging. The white inlay j-card only shows the release date '7/28/92' in black on its front and spine. The cassette itself is made of clear plastic and the release date '7/28/92' is the only text printed on its white paper labels.

USA CD promo "Tomorrow" [Reprise PRO-CD-5637]
The release of "Your Arsenal" was also promoted with the help of this promo cd featuring two versions of the track "Tomorrow": the album version and a 3:21 edit labelled as "radio remix". The disc is brown with yellow text. A Sire logo and Morrissey's name appear at the top, the track listing and logos for Reprise and Compact Disc at the bottom, with credits all around the outer edge. The disc comes in a standard jewel case without a front insert. The back is a generic Reprise tray insert on which was only added Morrissey's name, the track listing including song lengths and a production credit (view left). The spines are blue with release identification in the middle, between the catalogue number and "Sire/Reprise".

Note: The one track promo cd of "Tomorrow" numbered PRO-CD-5649 actually served to promote the release of the "Tomorrow" single. See the collectors appendix for the latter single for information.

USA CD promo Glamorous Glue [Reprise PRO-CD-5752]
The promotional campaign for "Your Arsenal" was extended in December 1992 with the distribution of a second promo cd, this one featuring album track "Glamorous Glue" (which was a planned single at the time; those plans were scrapped). The cd has a silver (uncoloured) surface with black text: Morrissey, "Glamorous Glue (Album Version)" and song length at the top; Sire/Reprise credit on the left; promo warning, album announcement and publishing info on the right; production credits, logos and catalogue number at the bottom. The disc comes in a standard jewel case without a front insert. The back is a generic Reprise tray insert on which was only added Morrissey's name, the title and song length (view left). The spines are blue with release identification in the middle, between the catalogue number and "Sire/Reprise".

USA review copy of aborted reissue [Warner Strategic Marketing / Sire / Rhino]
In 2004 Warner Strategic Marketing / Rhino worked on a tentative reissue programme of Morrissey's first five studio albums ("Viva Hate, "Bona Drag", "Kill Uncle", "Your Arsenal", "Vauxhall & I"). These plans were shelved, but not before review copies were sent to various people involved in the project. The "Your Arsenal" review cd features the album's basic 10-song track listing plus 6 bonus tracks: "There Speaks A True Friend (alternate version)", "Fantastic Bird (demo)", "Pashernate Love (long version)", "Seasick, Yet Still Docked (acoustic alternate)", "Let The Right One Slip In (alternate long mix)", "Jack The Ripper (b-side)". The cd-r has a white paper label with printed information, including release identification at the top, Sire and Rhino logos at the bottom, and legal warnings on the left and at the bottom. The back white paper insert features the track listing, with Sire and Rhino logos at the bottom, next to a legal warning.

(Middle East Country?) cassette [GL Label G7478]
This cassette features the "Your Arsenal" artwork and title, but it is actually subtitled "The Hits Collection" and is a mish-mash of 23 tracks mostly from the "Viva Hate", "Kill Uncle" and "Your Arsenal" albums. It is therefore described in the section covering unlicensed editions.

(unknown) cassette [??]
The origin of this cassette, which features on the front a variation of the usual cassette artwork in which the text at the bottom is printed over an ocean green background, is unknown. Any information would be appreciated.
