"Kill Uncle"
collectors appendix

UK CD [HMV CDCSD3789]
The front and back of the UK compact disc are similar to their LP counterparts but the relative size and position of the text, logos and barcode vary slightly (view front and back on the left). It must be stressed that there is no "PM 516" to the left of the barcode on the back. The latter number is a French price code and is only found on the EEC cd which is often mistaken for a UK cd (see EEC cd description below). The sky and clouds background carries from the back over to the spines. Morrissey's name and "Kill Uncle" appear to the left on both spines, with the UK and Euro catalogue numbers printed one above the other to the right. The insert unfolds once horizontally and then once vertically. When unfolded, one side features an alternate shot of Morrissey with only one arm outstretched, with full album lyrics and credits printed around him. The reverse of this insert is grey-blue except for the quarter which becomes the front once folded, and except for the quarter which becomes the back, which is all blue and shows only three lines of personnel credits printed in black at the bottom and the two catalogue numbers in the top right corner, also in black. The disc is mostly white with black text. It has a black stripe at the top with "His Master's Voice" in white inside it and five lines of EMI credits above. The right side of the disc shows the catalogue numbers, the album title, the track listing, a "for credits…" line and a label code. There is a black His Master's Voice logo at the bottom and a black compact disco logo on the left.

UK cassette [HMV TCCSD3789]
The front image was cropped for the cassette artwork (view left). The spine and back flap of the insert are blue with black text. The spine shows Morrissey's name and the album title in the same font as on the front, between the catalogue number at the top and a His Master's Voice logo at the bottom. The back features the track listing and two lines of credits above the barcode. To the left of the barcode are found the UK catalogue number and EMI copyright while on the right are found the Euro catalogue number and manufacturing credits. The insert has three extra panels. The first one is all pale blue with only three lines of personnel credits at the very bottom in black. The alternate image of Morrissey with arms outstretched that is found inside the opened gatefold LP is reproduced here over the space of the other two panels (view left). The full album lyrics and credits are printed on the reverse of the insert, in black over pale blue. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed onto it. The release identification is found at the top (but no track listing), between the catalogue number and EMI copyright on the left and a His Master's Voice logo on the right.

UK LP [HMV CSD3789]
The UK LP comes in a gatefold sleeve, view front and back artwork from the image gallery on the left. The opened-sleeve content is lyrics and some credits over a pale blue background on the left side and an alternate pose of Morrissey on the right side (view 'inside LP' in gallery). The record comes inside a black poly-lined paper record bag with rounded corners. It bears classic His Master's Voice labels which are black with most of the text in grey. A His Master's Voice logo appears at the very top above "His Master's Voice" in big red letters. The track listing, the catalogue number and various credits are found in the bottom half and more credits are printed around the edge. There are actually two different variations of the labels. Morrissey's name in the credits of original copies is misspelled with only one 'R'. This was soon corrected for later pressings.

UK LP [1995 reissue on Parlophone PCS7375]
The sleeve was barely altered for the Parlophone reissue on LP format. It is still gatefold and the front artwork was not changed. The barcode on the back is bigger and incorporates the catalogue numbers, and the His Master's Voice in the bottom right corner was changed for a Parlophone one. The inner side of the gatefold sleeve showing the lyrics and credits is expected to not have been retouched (confirmation needed). The inner sleeve was changed for a white paper one. The labels are expected to have been completely redesigned and to look like post-1993 Morrissey releases on EMI: black with yellow Parlophone logo at the top and pale grey text beneath that, including the track listing in the bottom half (confirmation needed).

UK CD promo [HMV CDCSD3789]
The only reported promotional tool for this title is a promo stickered stock compact disc. The back of the case has two stickers affixed onto it. One is white with a red promotional warning, and the other is a typewritten or computer printed sticker giving the release date and six lines of press release type of information.

UK LP test pressing
This item bears all white labels and probably comes in a generic sleeve or record bag.
CSD 3789 A-3-1-2 / CSD 3789 B-3-1-1 (to be confirmed)

UK advance cassette [Abbey Road]
An advance Abbey Road cassette served administrative in-house purposes. The insert is a generic Abbey Road one. Its front shows the album title and track listings for a-side and b-side over the pale grey and yellow Abbey Road logo. The back of the insert shows an Abbey Road logo and the company's contact information. The cassette may be of the That's brand, black with blue text and a clear triangular window exposing one reel, with white sticker labels featuring black and yellow Abbey Road logo, "Advance Cassette" and release identification (confirmation needed). The spine probably shows the same info (confirmation needed).

UK cd insert proof - early version
A rejected proof sheet of the insert for the UK cd has made it into the world of Morrissey collectors. It shows the usual insert as detailed in the stock cd description above, unfolded with cutting/folding marks around it and a Dupont colour chart on the right, but Morrissey's name and the album title on the front as well as the bit of text on the reverse are printed in a pale tan shade instead of black.

UK cassette insert proof - early version
A rejected proof sheet of the insert for the UK cassette has made it into the world of Morrissey collectors. It shows the usual insert as detailed in the stock cassette description above, unfolded with cutting/folding marks around it and a Dupont colour chart on the right, but all the text with the exception of the track listing and barcode content on the back is printed in a pale tan shade instead of black.

Argentina promo EP [EMI DIF042]
Copies of the "Kill Uncle" album must have been officially imported for the Argentinean market as "Our Frank" was included on a 8-track various artists promo EP. The record comes in a white die-cut card sleeve with "Difusion" in blue at the top and a blue EMI logo at the bottom. The labels are white with "Venta Prohibida" in tall red letters across them, over the release information, credits and catalogue number printed in black. A red EMI logo is found on the left side of them and legal credits around the edges, in yellow or gold (more information needed).

Australia cassette [EMI Australia 795707-4]
The Australian cassette shows the cassette variation of the artwork on the front of its insert, with orange titles just like in the USA (view left). Information about the rest of the insert and about the cassette itself is needed.

Australia LP [EMI Australia 795707-1]
The Australian LP is said to have been manufactured in a single sleeve LP instead of a gatefold one just like in the USA. It presumably features the LP variation of the artwork on the front, with orange text (confirmation needed). Additional information on the packaging of this item is needed.

Brazil CD [EMI Odeon 795707-2]
The Brazilian cd features the same artwork on the front as the UK cd. The back was modelled on its British counterpart but a number of changes were made. The barcode and catalogue numbers in the top right corner were replaced with compact disc and EMI logos as well as a block of EMI Odeon credits. The His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner and the manufacturing credit in the bottom left corner were removed. The spines are similar to the UK cd spines but the catalogue numbers were replaced with the Brazilian one. The insert unfolds in four just like the UK insert, but it features on its back the full track listing, including songwriting credits and the mandatory-in-Brazil publishing numbers, above production, label and personnel credits. The disc surface is silver (uncoloured) with black text: album title and Morrissey's name at the top, track listing to the right, compact disc logo, catalogue number, block of credits and EMI logo to the left, legal warning around the edge.

Brazil cassette [EMI Odeon 795707-4]
Information needed.

Brazil LP [EMI Odeon 795707-1]
The Brazil LP features the LP variation of the artwork on the front, with orange title (view left). The sleeve is gatefold. The existence of copies in a single sleeve is rumoured, but this is unconfirmed. The back artwork was modelled on the back of the UK LP, but the track listing appears in orange, the only thing in the top right corner is the catalogue number and the His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner was removed. The three lines of production/photography credits and the EMI credit in the bottom left corner are also in orange and are printed a bit higher, making space for a black EMI logo and additional credits for EMI-Odeon printed in black. The printing and manufacturing credits were removed from the bottom right corner of the lyrics panel of the inner gatefold sleeve. The record is slipped inside a white paper inner sleeve and has pale yellow labels with a orange/red EMI logo at the bottom and orange/red legal credits in Portuguese around the outer edge. The track listing on each side is given in the bottom half of the label, with Morrissey's name and "Kill Uncle" in the top half. The catalogue number is on the left and EMI-Odeon credit on the right.

Brazil LP promo [EMI Odeon 795707-1]
This may or may not be a stock copy with promo sticker on the sleeve. Information needed.

Brazil EP promo [EMI Odeon 9951 236]
This 4-track various artists EP featuring "Our Frank" is presumed to have served as a promo for "Kill Uncle", as the latter song was not released as a single in Brazil. The record has yellow/beige labels with a pale orange EMI logo at the bottom and orange legal credits in Portuguese around the outer edge. The track listing on each side is given in the bottom half of the label, with "Disco Promocional Mix Invendável" and "Varios" in the top half. The catalogue number is on the left and EMI-Odeon credit on the right. This promo 12" was distributed inside a red die-cut thin card sleeve with a white EMI logo in the bottom right corner and a bright yellow rectangular sticker in the top left corner listing the musical content.

Canada CD [Sire/Reprise CD-26514]
The Canadian cd was mostly modelled on the American one. It features the expected compact disc variation of the artwork with orange title on the front (view left). The back is just like the back of the American cd, but the three lines of American credits next to the barcode were replaced with four lines of Sire/Warner Canada credits, and "Tony The Pony" is always listed in the track listing (this is not always the case for the USA cd). The spines also show Morrissey's name and the album title in the same font as on the front (but in black), between the catalogue number and "Sire/Reprise", but the latter two elements are printed in black instead of orange. The insert is very glossy, it unfolds twice like its UK and American counterparts, the three lines of personnel on the back are orange like in the USA and everything on the lyrics side is in black and white. When folded, the catalogue number in the top right corner on the back is the Canadian one, printed in black. This catalogue number was also added in the bottom right corner of the lyrics side, instead of "Made in USA". The disc is uncoloured with black text. Morrissey's name and "Kill Uncle" appear at the top, the track listing is given on the right, a very brief Sire credit on the left, Sire and Reprise logos at the bottom alongside a compact disc logo, between a production credit above and the catalogue number below.

Canada cassette [Sire/Reprise 92 65144]
The Canadian cassette features on its front the cassette variation of the artwork with orange title (view left). The spine and back are lilac-blue with mostly black text. Morrissey's name and the album title appear on the spine in the same font as on the front but in black, with orange Sire and Reprise logos at the top and the catalogue number and Dolby logo in black at the bottom. The back flap shows the track listing at the top, above the barcode which has on its left five lines of credits (production, photography) and on its right the Sire copyright and Warner Music Canada address. The insert has three extra inner panels. The only thing found on the first one is the personnel list at the very bottom, just as in the UK, but it is printed here in orange instead of black. The other two panels feature the alternate image of Morrissey with arms outstretched, just like in the UK. Lyrics and credits are printed in black over pale blue background on the reverse of the insert in the same layout as in the UK, but the credits include additional ones for Sire as well as information on Dolby technology, and the Canadian catalogue number is printed sideways in the top right corner. The cassette itself is made of black plastic and has the text printed in pale grey onto it. The album identification and track listing appear at the top on each side, with Sire and Reprise logos and catalogue number on the left and Warner Music Canada credits at the bottom.

Canada cassette [Columbia House W4 26514; record club edition]
This record club edition differs from the standard retail one described above by a few details on its packaging. The Sire/Reprise catalogue number on the spine was replaced by the Columbia House one with their order number between parentheses. The Warner Music Canada credits on the back flap were changed for ones related to Columbia House. The only change on the reverse of the insert is the absence of the Sire/Reprise catalogue number usually found printed sideways in the top right corner. The cassette is still made of black plastic with grey text, but the usual catalogue number on the left was changed for the record club's one plus "CRC" and the credits at the bottom were expectedly changed for ones related to Columbia House.

EEC CD [EMI CDP 79 5707 2]
This compact disc edition is almost always mistaken for a UK pressing. It differs from the latter edition by only two minor details: a French price code ("PM 516") was added to the left of the barcode on the back inlay, and "Made In EU" was added on the disc beneath the line "For credits see inlay card".

EEC cassette [EMI 264-79 5707 4]
The EEC cassette differs more from its UK counterpart than the EEC cd does. The front is exactly the same. The UK catalogue number and the printing and manufacturing credit on the back were removed, while the Euro catalogue number was extended to "79 5707 4" and a French price code was added, sideways on the left of the track listing. The catalogue number was also changed on the spine, and a red EMI logo was added there above the His Master's Voice logo. A EMI marketing/manufacturing/distribution credit was added at the very bottom of the insert's first panel. The two following panels were not touched, they still show the usual Morrissey image (view left). The insert's reverse differs only by the addition of a "Morault" printing credit printed sideways in a very small font in the bottom right corner. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed onto it, just like in the UK, but it shows amongst many other thing the track listing at the top, the Euro catalogue number and "HMV" in the top left corner, and "Made in EEC" on the right, above a EMI logo.

EEC LP [EMI 064 7 95707 1]
The 1995 vinyl reissue was manufactured in a standard single sleeve instead of a gatefold one like the original. The front artwork remained unchanged. The back was slightly changed. The barcode is printed directly over the cloudy background instead of being set inside a white box and the catalogue numbers around it were replaced with the Euro catalogue number for this item as well as those of its cassette and cd counterparts, and a French price code. An EMI logo was added to the left of the His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner and a label code to the right of the credits in the bottom left corner. Because the packaging was changed for a single sleeve, the usual inner gatefold content was reproduced on each side of the inner sleeve. One side shows the image of Morrissey in an alternate pose ('inside LP' from image gallery), and the opposite side features the lyrics. The credits on the latter side are the same as in the UK, minus the last two lines (printing/manufacturing), which mention England and had to be deleted. The labels are similar to the UK labels, they are black with a His Master's Voice logo at the top and track listing in pale grey in the bottom half, but many minor changes were made in the catalogue number and credits. A GEMA/STEMRA box and label code were added to the left and the credits printed around the edge state "Made in the EEC".

France press kit
The release of this album in France (where the EEC releases were sold) was promoted with the help of an EMI France press kit inside a 12" x 9" folder featuring on the front a variation of the album's artwork (view). The press kit includes an 8-page press release in French and four black and white photos (information on or scans of photos needed).

Greece LP [EMI Greece 062-7957071]
The Greek LP comes in a gatefold sleeve that differs only slightly from the UK LP sleeve. The few differences are found on the back only, as the front and inner gatefold content was not altered. The barcode on the back is printed directly over the image (instead of being set inside a white box), it has the Euro catalogue number next to it, but not the UK one beneath. An EMI Greece credit was added in the bottom left corner between the printing/photography credits and the EMI credit. A I.Leonardos printing credit was also added to the right of that. The record comes inside a clear plastic inner sleeve. The labels were modelled on the original UK-HMV ones, with a few changes. The font of most of the grey text was changed, presumably because the song titles are followed by their songwriting credits, which means that more text had to be fitted in. The UK catalogue number on the left was removed, the block of catalogue numbers on the right was changed for another one which includes Greek catalogue and publishing numbers, and the legal warning and credits around the edge were changed for bilingual (Greek and English) ones.

Greece cassette [HMV 262 7957074]
This edition bears the usual UK cassette artwork on the front. The spine is the same as in the UK but the catalogue number at the top is the Greek one. The two lines mentioning England were removed from the back flap. The back of the case is made of black instead of clear plastic so the cassette is not visible when the case is closed. When sealed, there is an official Greek copyright paper seal around the cassette. Information about the cassette itself is needed.

Greece LP promo [EMI Greece 062-7957071]
Promo copies are stock ones with a small white and red sticker on the front of the sleeve with what is assumed to be a Greek promo warning.

Indonesia cassette [Sire/Reprise 9 26514-2]
The front artwork of this unlicensed edition shows a cropped version of the usual artwork, but Morrissey's name and the album title were moved above Morrissey's head and appear in a different big yellow font with black shadow. The spine is lilac coloured and gives Morrissey's name and the album title in a thick black font, between "Sire/Reprise" at the top and the American cd catalogue number at the bottom, indicating that this was produced from the latter edition. The back is also lilac with black text and features the track listing (including "Tony The Pony"), a barcode and credits. The insert has two extra panels. A cropped portion of the lower 3/4 of the usual American cd back artwork (so excluding the barcode and credits) covers the space of these two panels. The reverse of the insert is all white. The cassette is made of clear plastic with white text over a black background. Morrissey's name, the album title and the track listing appears at the top on each side, a Sire/Reprise mock-logo on the right and a Sire credit at the bottom.

Italy LP [EMI Italiana 64 7957071]
The Italian LP comes in a gatefold sleeve that features the usual UK LP artwork on the front (view left). The inner gatefold content is perfectly identical to what is found inside the UK LP sleeve, and the back was barely altered: the catalogue numbers around the barcode were replaced with the Italian one beneath, and an EMI Italiana credit was added underneath the usual EMI credits in the bottom left corner. The inner sleeve is a simple white paper one. The labels were also modelled on their British counterparts so they show a big red retro His Master's Voice logo at the top and grey text in the bottom half, but the font of the text is not quite the same as in the UK, the layout was slightly changed and the catalogue number was removed on the left side and corrected on the right side. EMI Italiana credits are found around the top edge of them.

Italy cassette [EMI Italiana 795707-4]

Japan CD [Toshiba EMI TOCP-6635]
The Japanese cd comes in a regular jewel case with white plastic tray. The front artwork looks like the American cd variation with orange album title, but the text is positioned slightly lower and the catalogue number was added in a small black font in the bottom right corner (view left). The back and spine are another story, as the text there is black, just like in the UK and most other countries. There is no barcode on the back so the track listing was moved slightly higher to fill part of the gap. The His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner was replaced with EMI and Compact Disc logos. The manufacturing credit in the bottom left corner was dropped and the remained credits (production, photography, EMI) were moved up to make space for Japanese ones. The spines both state the catalogue number, Morrissey's name and the album title, but the left spine does it in Japanese and the right one in English. The font on the English side is the same as on the front, only black. The obi is mauve with dark orange Japanese text on the front and spine, and black track listing, barcode and Japanese credits on the back. There are two inserts inside. One is folded in four like the insert in most other countries. Its lyrics side is just like in the UK, minus the five final lines of credits in the bottom right corner. There is no catalogue number on its back and the personnel list, which is printed in orange, has beneath it a EMI logo and brief bilingual credit. The other insert is a booklet. A press photo of Morrissey appears on the reverse of its front page and a detail from the same photo, sans Morrissey, on the reverse of the back page. The booklet's first page is a bilingual track listing including songwriting, publishing and production credits at the bottom. This is followed by five pages of lyrics in Japanese, including a small headshot of Morrissey on the third one. The remaining ten pages feature an interview with Morrissey, very likely a recent UK one translated to Japanese. Black and white press photos of the singer were inserted here and there within the interview. The back of the booklet is just like the back of the folded insert. The disc was modelled on the UK disc but the black horizontal stripe at the top does not include the usual "His Master's Voice", the British catalogue number above the Euro one was replaced with the Japanese catalogue number, the label code at the bottom on the right was replaced with EMI and Jasrac logos as well as EMI copyright info, and the His Master's Voice logo at the very bottom was removed.

§

Japan CD promo [Toshiba EMI TOCP-6635]
Promo copies are stock ones with a white and red promo sticker on the back tray insert and the words "Sample Not For Sale" stamped in black around the disc's inner ring.

Japan promo postcards
View here. This set of three postcards is assumed to have something to do with the release of "Kill Uncle".

Portugal LP [HMV 79 5707 1]
The Portuguese LP comes in a gatefold sleeve that features the usual UK LP artwork on the front (view left). The inner gatefold content is the same as in the UK except for the missing printing/manufacturing credit in the bottom right corner of the lyrics side. The back of the sleeve was barely altered: the catalogue numbers around the barcode were replaced with the Portuguese one beneath, and a Valentim De Carvalho logo/credit was added underneath the usual EMI credits in the bottom left corner. The inner sleeve is a simple white paper one. The labels are red and the top half on each side shows a retro His Master's Voice logo in colour (mostly black, white and gold). Track listing, catalogue number and credits are printed in black in the bottom half and a black and white EMI logo is found at the very bottom.

Portugal cassette [HMV 7957074]
Unexpectedly, this edition shows the USA/Canada variation of the artwork on the front, with orange text. The text is also orange on the spine of the insert, with an orange HMV logo and black catalogue number at the top. The black flap however is like its UK counterpart, except for the missing catalogue number on the left of the barcode, the missing manufacturing credit on the right of it, and the additional Valentim de Carvalho logo bottom right. The insert has none of the usual extra panels. Instead, the track listing and usual credits are printed in black over white on the insert's reverse side. A white and silver DGEDA stripe of paper (presumably attesting to the legality of the release) is glued around the bottom of the spine and front. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed directly onto it. The catalogue number and HMV and EMI logos are found on the left, the track listing top right and credits in Portuguese at the bottom.

Russia cd [(no label or cat no)]
The whole of "Kill Uncle" was released as bonus tracks to an unlicensed Russian edition of the "Your Arsenal" album. See the latter item's collectors appendix for information.

Saudi Arabia cassette [Thomsun Original EN-4419; 4 extra tracks]
The front of this unlicensed edition shows the UK cd artwork on the front (view left), in a blue box over a white background. Morrissey's name appears above in purple with the album title in pinkish red. A pink Thames Original logo and "Stereo" in black are found at the bottom. Information on the spine is needed. The back is very pale blue, it features the track listing in black (including four bonus tracks: "Yes I Am Blind", "East West", "Suedehead" and "I Know Very Well How I Got My Name"). The reverse of the insert is all white. The cassette is a generic black UDT46 tape that looks like cassettes bought blank for home usage. It has generic black, white and green labels with "Thomsun" in gold and a white sticker label at the top stating Morrissey's name, the album title and the catalogue number.

Saudi Arabia cassette [Stallions TCCSD3789]
This edition is packaged more professionally than the one described above, but it still is an unlicensed edition. The front shows the usual cassette variation of the artwork, and the spine and the insert's three extra panels are the same as in the UK. The barcode on the back flap was replaced with an EMI logo, the catalogue numbers and the two lines mentioning England on its sides were removed, a Stallions logo was added in the bottom left corner and a Dolby logo in the bottom right corner. The lyrics are found on the reverse of the insert just like in the UK, but they are printed in black and white and Stallions' logo and contact information are given behind the back flap. The cassette is made of clear plastic with grey text printed directly onto it. Morrissey's name and the album title are found at the top on each side, with an EMI logo in the top left corner above the catalogue number, a Stallions logo above the Dolby logo in the bottom left corner and a warning at the bottom.

South Africa CD [EMI CDP 7957072]
The existence of this item is mentioned on the back of its LP counterpart, but it appears to have never been seen on the collectors market.

South Africa cassette [EMI L4 EMCJ (N) 5426]
The existence of this item is mentioned on the back of its LP counterpart, but it appears to have never been seen on the collectors market.

South Africa LP [EMI EMCJ(D)5426]
The South African LP comes in a gatefold sleeve that features the usual UK LP artwork on the front (view left). The inner gatefold content is the same as in the UK except for the missing printing/manufacturing credit in the bottom right corner of the lyrics side. A number of changes were made to the back of the sleeve. The barcode was moved from the top right to the top left corner and in its former place are found the catalogue number for the LP as well as those for this country's two other formats (although there are doubts that these actually exist; the cd sold in South Africa could be the European edition). Some "Seal Of Approval" logo (presumably 'approving' the legitimacy of this release) was added to the right of the His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner, and a block of EMI Music South Africa credits including a EMI logo was added above the usual credits in the bottom left corner. The inner sleeve is a simple white paper one. The labels are yellow with black text. A big old-style His Master's Voice logo is found at the top, the European catalogue number and the RPM on the left, the South African catalogue number on the right and the track listing at the bottom, with an EMI logo at the very bottom. A legal warning is found around the edge.

Spain LP [EMI Odeón 076 7957071]
Spain is one of the few countries where the text on the front of the LP is orange (view left). The back of the sleeve is alsmost the same in contents and layout as in the UK, but the text and logos are all printed in orange. There is a barcode in the top right corner with the catalogue number beneath it and a His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner. The usual credits in the bottom left corner lack the EMI credit as it was replaced with local EMI Odeón credits. The sleeve is gatefold and its inside contents are exactly the same as in the UK except for the credits' final two lines (printing and manufacturing) which were deleted. The record is slipped inside a white paper inner sleeve. The labels were modelled closely on the UK ones. They are black with red His Master's Voice logo at the top and grey text in the bottom half, but the logo is just red without any white inside it and without the white "33 1/3 R.P.M." beneath it. The text's layout and font were slightly changed and, as expected, further changes had to be made in the catalogue number, publishing rights and legal text around the edge.

Spain cassette [EMI Odeón 276 7957074]
The Spanish cassette features on its front the variation of the cassette artwork featuring orange text, just as in the USA (view left). The spine is pale blue with orange text and logos. It shows Morrissey's name and the album title in the same font as on the front, between a His Master's Voice logo at the top and the catalogue number at the bottom between thick stripes. The back flap is also blue. It features the track listing in black above orange production, recording and photography credits, and the barcode. Four lines of EMI Odeón credits are printed in a bolder font on each sides of the barcode. The cassette insert's extra three fold-out panels and everything on the reverse side are the same as in the UK, except for the three lines of text at the bottom of the first panel which are orange instead of black. The cassette is beige with black text printed directly onto it. The track listing and EMI Odeón credits are found at the top on each side, with a His Master's Voice logo in the top left corner above the catalogue nubmer. There's a S.G.A.E. (rights) logo on the right beneath the side number and four lines of warning against reproduction at the bottom.

Taiwan cassette [EMI EM0104]
The Taiwanese cassette features the same artwork on the front as the British cassette (view left). The spine and back of the insert are pale blue with black text. The spine shows Morrissey's name and the album title in both English and Taiwanese, with the catalogue number and two EMI logos (one in each language) at the top and a Dolby logo, a His Master's Voice logo and the UK catalogue number at the bottom. The back is full with two oval-shaped holes in it for the case's plastic prongs to go through. A black vertical line separates the English track listing, English credits and Taiwanese credits on the left from what appears to be a brief bio in Taiwanese on the right. The insert has three extra panels that are identical to the panels of the UK cassette, the first one pale blue with the personnel credits at the bottom and the two other ones showing the alternate image of Morrissey in preacher pose. The reverse of this insert features the full album lyrics as with the UK cassette, but in this case these are printed in black over yellowish beige. The cassette itself is made of black plastic and bears black paper labels. The text on them is silver grey: release identification and track listing at the top, His Master's Voice logo and UK catalogue number on the left, two EMI logos (one in each language) and catalogue number on the right and what may be a legal warning in Taiwanese at the bottom.

Thailand cassette [Peacock 5686]
This unlicensed edition shows on its front a cropped version of the usual Morrissey front image, with Morrissey's name and the album title at the top in an unrelated mustard yellow font. Beneath the album title the production credits were added in red and the personel and songwriting credits in black. Morrissey's name and the album title are repeated on the spine in the same font and colour as on the front, with the catalogue number at the bottom in black. The American track listing is printed in black on the insert's back flap. A cropped version of the usual back artwork, showing Morrissey, the track listing as well as production and recording credits, appears on the insert's only inside panel. The cassette is made of black plastic and shows nothing related to the album except for the catalogue number which was stamped in gold in the top right corner.

Uruguay cassette [EMI 501778-4]
This unlicensed edition features the American compact disc artwork (view left) on the front, between purple stripes above and below. Morrissey's name and a Dolby logo are found above that, and the album title below, all in black. The purple stripes carry over to the spine. Morrissey's name and the album title are printed in black between them, above a Dolby logo. A EMI logo is found at the top and the catalogue number at the bottom. The insert's back flap is white with black track listing (including bonus track "Tony The Pony") and two lines of pale blue credits. The insert has one extra panel and this additional space is used for the album's track listing and a few lines of songwriting and EMI credits, all printed in black over white. The cassette is made of white plastic and bears pale yellow labels featuring release identification and track listing in black at the top, black catalogue number, red "Agadu" and red EMI logo on the left, red "Stereo" and Dolby logo on the right and four lines of red legal fine print at the bottom.

USA CD [Sire/Reprise 9 26514-2]
The American cd features on its front the cd variation of the artwork with orange title (view left). The back artwork was closely adapted from the back of the UK cd (view left). The two catalogue numbers next to the barcode were replaced with three lines of Sire/Reprise/Time Warner credits, the His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner was replaced with Sire and Reprise logos and the EMI and manufacturing credits in the bottom left corner were removed. There are two different variations of the back, as the title "Tony The Pony" is included at the end of the track listing on copies featuring the latter bonus track. The spines are lilac/blue and show Morrissey's name and "Kill Uncle" in the same font as on the front but in black, between the catalogue number and "Sire/Reprise" both in orange. The insert unfolds twice into a big square just like the UK cd insert, but the lyrics side is all black and white and the printing/manufacturing credits in the bottom right corner were replaced with a Sire copyright and "Made in USA". The lyrics to bonus track "Tony The Pony" were not added. The back of this insert is mostly empty just like in the UK, but the three lines of personnel at the bottom and the catalogue number in the top right corner are printed in orange (the catalogue number having been changed for the American one). The disc is uncoloured with black text. Morrissey's name and "Kill Uncle" appear at the top, the track listing is given on the right, Sire and Reprise credits on the left, their logos at the bottom alongside a compact disc logo, the catalogue number and "Made In USA".

USA CD [Columbia House 20831-4167-2/W2 26514; record club edition]
The Columbia House record club edition differs from the standard retail edition by only a few details. The catalogue number on the spine and the one on the back of the insert were replaced with the Columbia House one, but both are still printed in orange. The catalogue number was also corrected on the disc which otherwise remains the same. The back inlay includes "Tony The Pony" in the track listing and differs from the original back inlay by the addition of a Columbia House manufacturing credit in the bottom left corner.

USA CD [BMG Direct D120588; record club edition]
This record club edition only differs from the standard retail edition on the back, insert and disc; the front and spines are identical. The barcode on the back was removed and in its white box was printed a BMG Direct catalogue number and credit. Bonus track "Tony The Pony" is not mentioned in the track listing there. The BMG Direct catalogue number was added in the bottom right corner on the back of the insert, but in black instead of orange like the rest of the text there. The ending of the block of credits on the left side of the disc was changed to "Mfd for BMG Direct Marketing, Inc. under License / D100588".

USA CD longbox
Until about 1992-1993, compact discs were sold in the USA in tall picture boxes. Many were destroyed after purchase, but some were salvaged and ended up in fans' collections. These boxes featured their own variation on the album artwork. View front and back of the "Kill Uncle" longbox. The spines are the same lilac colour as the back, with Morrissey's name and the album title in the middle in black, between the catalogue number and the label names in orange.

USA cassette [Sire/Reprise 9 26514-4]
The American cassette features on its front the cassette variation of the artwork with orange title (view left). The spine and back are lilac-blue with mostly black text. Morrissey's name and the album title appear on the spine in the same font as on the front but in black, between orange Sire and Reprise logos at the top and the catalogue number and Dolby logo in black at the bottom. The back flap shows the track listing at the top, above the barcode which has on its left five lines of credits (production, photography) and on its right the Sire address over three lines. The insert has three extra inner panels. The only thing found on the first one is the personnel list at the very bottom, just as in the UK, but it is printed here in orange instead of black. The other two panels feature the alternate image of Morrissey with arms outstretched, just like in the UK. Lyrics and credits are printed in black over pale blue on the reverse of the insert, just like in the UK, but the credits include additional ones for Sire/Reprise/Time Warner as well as information on Dolby technology, and the American catalogue number is printed sideways in the top right corner. If it was not lost or replaced, the plastic case has a "w" Warner logo etched into its back segment. The cassette itself is made of clear plastic and has the text printed in pale grey onto it. The track listing appears at the top on each side, with Sire and Reprise logos and catalogue number on the left and Sire/Warner Bros credits at the bottom.

USA cassette [BMG Direct C120588; record club edition]
The BMG Direct record club edition is easily recognizable, mostly because BMG Direct Marketing credits and catalogue number were added in black on the left/bottom side of the front artwork. The BMG Direct catalogue number was also added in black on the spine beneath "Uncle". The barcode was replaced in its white box on the back by the BMG Direct address. The insert's extra panels and its reverse remained unchanged. While the retail cassette was manufactured in clear plastic, this one is made of white plastic with black text printed in black directly onto it. This text is almost identical in contents and layout. The most obvious differences in content are the additional BMG Direct catalogue number beneath the Sire one and the presence of a BMG Direct credit below the window.

USA cd promo [Reprise PRO-CD-4732]
The release of "Kill Uncle" was mainly promoted in the USA via this one-track promo cd of "Our Frank". The cd has a silver (uncoloured) surface with black text: Morrissey, "Our Frank" and song length at the top; Sire/Reprise/Time Warner credit on the left; promo warning, album announcement and publishing info on the right; production credits, logos and catalogue number at the bottom. The disc comes in a standard jewel case without a front insert. The back is a generic Reprise tray insert on which was only added Morrissey's name, the title and song length (view left). The spines are blue with release identification in the middle, between the catalogue number and "Sire/Reprise".

USA press kit
Another important Sire/Reprise promotional item for the release of "Kill Uncle" in the USA is this press kit consisting of a 3-page press release on yellow Sire paper and a 8" x 10" black and white publicity photo, all in a card Reprise folder. The 3-page press release has also been seen on blue Sire paper instead of yellow. Some kits include an extra Warner Bros press sheet on white paper with grey "Press Release" header, praising the success of the recent European dates and announcing the start of the American leg of the Kill Uncle tour, under the title "Morrissey-mania sparks record-breaking ticket sales". This additional press release may have been added to the press kit a posteriori.

USA press kit
This is an alternate press kit to the one above, consisting of two black and white 8" x 10" photographs and a 5-page press release housed in a generic Reprise folder. The press release is printed on bright yellow paper, announces the release of the "Kill Uncle" album (no mention of tour dates), and gives contact information for Sire's office in New York and Reprise's office in Burbank, California. The two press photos are both by Kevin Cummins: a solo shot of Morrissey standing in front of a glass mosaic window with his arm outstretched (view), and a group photo of Morrissey with his backing band (view).

USA 1-sided promo flat
Promo flats were usually sent to retail for instore promotion at the time of release of an album. They are made of thick card, the size of a LP and meant to be hanged. View here.

USA review copy of aborted reissue [Warner Strategic Marketing / Sire / Rhino]
In 2004 Warner Strategic Marketing / Rhino worked on a tentative reissue programme of Morrissey's first five studio albums ("Viva Hate, "Bona Drag", "Kill Uncle", "Your Arsenal", "Vauxhall & I"). These plans were shelved, but not before review copies were sent to various people involved in the project. The "Kill Uncle" review cd features the album's basic 10-song track listing plus 5 bonus tracks: "My Love Life" (full length version), "Striptease With A Difference", "Pregnant For The Last Time", "Trash (live Irvine)", "That's Entertainment (live Irvine)". The cd-r has a white paper label with printed information, including release identification at the top, Sire and Rhino logos at the bottom, and legal warnings on the left and at the bottom. The disc comes in a regular jewel case with clear tray. There is no front insert. The back white paper insert features the track listing, with Sire and Rhino logos at the bottom, next to a legal warning.

Venezuela LP [EMI EMI25187]
The Venezuela LP features the expected LP variation of the front artwork, but the text on it is orange as in Spain or Brazil (view left). The back was modelled on the back of the UK LP sleeve, but the text is a mix of orange and black, and minor changes were made. The track listing is orange. The barcode and catalogue numbers in the top right corner were replaced with a black EMI logo and catalogue number. The His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner was made orange, and a bit of black text ("P.V.P. Bs. 350") was added above it. The usual UK credits in the bottom left corner are found here in orange, and a block of local credits were added above them, in black. The sleeve is not gatefold, so the usual 'opened-sleeve' content was reproduced on respective sides of the inner sleeve. The record is actually kept inside an anti-static inner sleeve slipped in turn in this picture-and-lyrics inner sleeve. Unlike many other editions, the credits beneath the lyrics were not altered. The labels are pale yellow with the generic content in vermilion red and the release-specific content in black. The red generic content is the side identification on the left, the EMI logo at the bottom and the legal warning around the edge. The release-specific content is Morrissey's name (with one 'S') and the album title in a small font at the top, the catalogue number on the right, and the track listing with credits in the bottom half.

Yugoslavia LP [EMI Jugoton LP-7-1 203078]
The Yugoslavian LP comes in a gatefold sleeve that features the usual UK LP artwork on the front (view left) and is slightly smaller than its British counterpart. The inner gatefold content is the same as in the UK except for the missing printing/manufacturing credit in the bottom right corner of the lyrics side. A number of changes were made to the back of the sleeve. The UK and European catalogue numbers around the barcode were replaced with the Yugoslavian one set above it. The credits in the bottom left corner were not touched and Jugoton logo and credits were added to the right of the His Master's Voice logo in the bottom right corner. The record comes inside an anti-static inner sleeve. Its labels are almost identical to the UK ones but the catalogue number on the right side was changed for the Yugoslavian one and the credits around the edge are in Serbo-Croatian.

Yugoslavia 1/4" production master tape [Jugoton]
This 1/4" analogue production master tape was made for Jugoton (the Yugoslavian label licensed to release Morrissey items at the time). It was very likely used to cut the LP and cassette described above. It would have been dubbed from a UK DAT. The tape comes in a red card slipcase with technical data printouts sellotaped onto each side, over the box's AGFA labels. Both printouts are filled with typewritten and handwritten information such as the track listing, catalogue numbers and various technical mastering data.

(unknown) promo mock-turtleneck
A black long-sleeve mock-turtleneck shirt allegedly produced to promote the release of "Kill Uncle" has been seen on the collectors market. The shirt has "Kill Uncle" embroidered in yellow over the left breast pocket and Morrissey's name embroidered in white on the right arm. The country in which this was manufactured is unknown and its legitimacy is in doubt.
