"Trouble Loves Me"
(Morrissey/Alain Whyte)

The song was very likely written during 1996, or at the latest during the recording session for the "Maladjusted" album at Hook End Manor in January 1997, with producer Steve Lillywhite. Musicians on this recording were Martin aka Boz Boorer (guitars), Alain Whyte (guitars), Jonny Bridgwood (bass) and Spencer James Cobrin (drums).

Another version was recorded on 16 August 1997 for Morrissey's appearance on Y107's Modern Rock Live programme in Los Angeles, alongside 4 other numbers from the "Maladjusted" album. The personnel was the same as above.

Modern Rock Live radio session 16 August 1997 {4:27}
Nothing from this 5-song radio session (also including "Maladjusted", "Roy's Keen", "Satan Rejected My Soul" and "Alma Matters") has ever been given an official release, but average sounding recordings of the tracks can be found on various manufactured bootlegs as well as in digital format on the internet.

The song has been done in concert a total of 128 times by Morrissey. Against expectations, it was only played 8 times on the Maladjusted tour while Morrissey was promoting the album on which the song was released. This is even more surprising considering that it has become one of Morrissey's favourite tracks from this album, and has always been a fan favourite. The song received more attention on the 1999-2000 Oye Esteban tour when it was done 40 times. It was a fixture at the start of that tour, until early December 1999 after which it was dropped, only to return for the tour's final 4 dates in April 2000. It returned to Morrissey's sets on the Tour Of The Tormentors MMVI when it was done 38 times. What is particularly interesting for collectors of oddities it that the song was always preceded by a different piano intro of a well known local song on the latter tour. The song was almost a live fixture on the 2014 tour when it was on the setlist each and every night in the USA and played 42 times out of 49 dates in Europe.

There are no officially released live recordings of the song at this point in time.

No demos or studio outtakes of this song have leaked to the general public at this point in time.
