The musical backdrop to this song was written halfway into 1991. It is not known when Morrissey added his lyrics to it, but the song was recorded during the "Your Arsenal" sessions which took place in March 1992 at the Wool Hall in Bath, with producer Mick Ronson. Musicians on this recording were Boz Boorer (guitar), Alain Whyte (guitar), Gary Day (bass) and Spencer Cobrin (drums).

This song has been performed in concert 76 times by Morrissey. It was first introduced almost halfway through the Your Arsenal tour and remained on the setlist until the end of the year, for a total of 38 airings. On all occasions but three from the middle of October when it was slotted as set opener, the song would be segued into from "Such A Little Things Makes Such A Big Difference". It was pulled out of the vaults again on the 2004 You Are The Quarry tour when it was done a further 29 times. It was setlist-regular at the beginning of the tour, then would be done only sporadically towards the end. It returned on the 2014 tour for a further 9 airings out of 17 dates.
