This issue of the NME featured a Morrissey interview originally conducted by Tim Jonze. Before being printed Jonze's interview was re-edited by the paper's editor to make Morrissey's already controversial views on immigration in England make him look like racist. This sparked a confrontation between the music tabloid and Morrissey reminiscent of another one from 1992 where the NME editors of the time also tried to portrait Morrissey as racist with the aim of selling more copies (see 22 August 1992 in this list). The only difference is that this time Morrissey's people replied to the accusations instead of ignoring them.
