"In The Future When All's Well"
(Morrissey/Jesse Tobias)

These words are transcribed without permission the way they appear in Morrissey's "Ringleader Of The Tormentors" album. Additions to the printed lyrics are in darker text while omissions are striken out.

Armed with wealth
and the best of health
in the future when all's well

I will lie down
and be counted 1
in the future when all's well

I thank you
I thank you with all of my heart
I thank you
I thank you with all of my heart
Lee, please stand up and defend me
in the future when all's well
confront what you are afraid of
in the future when all's well

Every day I play
a sad game called 2
in the future when all's well

Living longer than
I had intended
something must have gone right? 3

I thank you
I thank you with all of my heart 4
I thank you
I thank you with all of my heart
Lee, please stand up and defend me 5
In the future when all's well
confront what you are afraid of
in the future when all's well

Hold me closely
if your will allows it
in the future when all's well
paired-off
pawed - till I can barely stand it
the future is ended by a long, long sleep
the future is ended by a long, long sleep
the future is ended by a long, long sleep

1 In live performances from late 2006 and early 2007 Morrissey sometimes playfully sang "I will lie down and be sat on". On the 2007 Greatest Hits tour he often took the line to "I will lie down anywhere and be sat on", then took a half-step back to "I will lie down anywhere and be counted". By the tour's second leg he generally reverted to the original form.

2 In live performances of the latter half of 2006 and in 2007 Morrissey sometimes sang "Everyday I play a silly game called...", "... a stupid game called...", "... a very sad game called..." or "... a pointless game called...".

3 On the Tour Of The Tormentors MMVI and in 2007, Morrissey constantly changed this line to the more predictable "Something must have gone wrong".

4 In live performances from late 2006 and early 2007 Morrissey sometimes playfully sang "I thank you with what's left of my heart".

5 In live performances of the latter half of 2006 and early in 2007 Morrissey sometimes sang "Lee, anybody, stand up and defend me".
