"I Like You"
(Morrissey/Boz Boorer)

These words are transcribed without permission the way they appear in Morrissey's "You Are The Quarry" album. Additions to the printed lyrics are in darker text while omissions are striken out.
Something in you caused me to
take a new tact with you
you were going through
something I had just about scraped through
why do you think I let you get away
with the things you say to me?
could it be I like you?
It's so shameful of me / I like you
No one I ever knew
or have spoken to resembles you 1
this is good or bad
all depending on my general mood
why do you think I let you get away
with all the things you say to me?
could it be I like you?
it's so shameful of me / I like you
Magistrates / who spend their lives
hiding their mistakes 2
they look at you and I / and
envy makes them cry 3
envy makes them cry
Forces of containment
they shove their fat faces into mine
but you and I just smile
because we're thinking the same lines
why do you think I let you get away
with all the things you say to me?
could it be I like you?
it's so shameful of me / I like you
because you're not right in the head
and nor am I / and this is why
you're not right in the head
and nor am I / and this is why
this is why I like you
I like you
I like you
this is why I like you
I like you
I like you
because you're not right in the head
and nor am I / and this is why
you're not right in the head
and nor am I / and this is why
this is why I like you
I like you, I like you
I like you
this is why I like you
I like you, I like you
I like you
this is why I like you
I like you
1 On the 2007 Greatest Hits tour Morrissey alternated between the usual "resembles you" and the alternate "resembles me".
2 On the 2002 tour Morrissey very occasionally changed this line to "magistrates who spend their lives shielding their mistakes". On the You Are The Quarry and Greatest Hits tours he stuck to the original line.
3 On the 2004 You Are The Quarry tour and the 2007 Greatest Hits tour Morrissey sometimes changed this line to "hatred makes them cry".
