5 July 2009 Riga (Latvia), Dream Factory
This Charming ManThis was a very good, energetic show. The sound was great and Morrissey was in a good mood, he was clearly enjoying himself. The crowd was very appreciative. The setlist was trimmed down to 19 songs with the deletion of "I Just Want To See The Boy Happy". As he usually did Morrissey tried to reach out to the audience by greeting them and thanking them in the local language. In Latvia he tried to say sveiki (hello), but he had trouble with the word. He thanked the crowd in Russian (spasibo), which may have been a minor cultural faux-pas. As there was less singing along than in other places he visited, he teased the crowd by saying "It's OK if you don't know the words... just smile... or nod... or leave..." As an introduction to "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores" Morrissey commented on the Michael Jackson chart domination following the latter artist's recent death: "This week in the UK number 1, number 2, number 3, number 4 and number 5 is Michael Jackson... that's proof that this world is full of crashing bores..." Morrissey's musicians were introduced as "the merchandise for sale". Another tradition on this tour besides the introduction of the band was the chit-chat with fans in the front rows. One fan who was handed the microphone commented on some Morrissey banter from the previous night's show in Tallinn by telling the singer that his band were still the best death metal band out of Finland.
