"World Of Morrissey"
collectors appendix
UK CD [Parlophone CDPCSD163]
The front of the UK compact disc is similar to that of its LP counterpart but the relative position and size of the text and Parlophone logo are slightly different (view left). The back follows a similar design to the back of the LP but the various elements vary in size and position and a Compact Disc logo was added between the Parlophone logo and the barcode (view left). Also, unlike the LP, the "I:" and "F:" compartments beneath the barcode are filled with information. The spines are dark brown with white text. They feature the album title in the same font as on the front, with the barcode number on the right. The cd tray is transparent so when the disc is taken out, the text-less back artwork image can be seen through it. The booklet is actually just a folded insert. Inside it is a block of text consisting of the album's track listing and full songwriting/publishing/production credits printed in black over a golden background. This is the same text also found on the LP's inner sleeve. Beneath it are found an EMI copyright and a Parlophone logo. The back of the insert shows the alternate smiling Cornelius Carr photo as on the back artwork, with various personnel and packaging credits and the barcode number printed in white at the very bottom. The disc is black with grey text and a yellow Parlophone logo at the top. An EMI copyright is found on the left; a Compact Disc logo, the barcode number, "Made in the U.K.", a label code, "Stereo" and "BIEM/MCPS" on the right; the track listing at the bottom above Morrissey's name; a legal warning around the bottom edge.
UK LP [Parlophone PCSD163]
The front of the sleeve of the UK LP shows almost the same crop of the cover photo as the front of the cd, but the relative position and size of the text and Parlophone logo are slightly different (view left). The back follows a similar design to the back of the cd but the various elements vary in size and position and there is no Compact Disc logo (view left). Also, unlike the cd, the "I:" and "F:" compartments beneath the barcode were left empty. The record comes inside a card inner sleeve showing on one side the same image of a smiling Cornelius Carr as on the back, but without any text over it (view left). The other side is beige. Its upper two thirds are empty, but the bottom third is filled at near maximum capacity with text and logos in black. Most of the text consists of the track listing printed in a big block, in which every song title is printed in bold and followed with its songwriting, publishing and production credits and a copyright (same as inside the cd booklet/insert). Beneath that are two lines of additional credits, mainly personnel and other various collaborators, an EMI copyright, the barcode number and a Parlophone logo. The text side of the inner sleeve is indented on the right to facilitate access to the record inside. The labels are black with grey text and a yellow Parlophone logo at the top. The EMI copyright, "Made In The U.K." and the label code are on the left; the catalogue, side and barcode numbers on the right; the track listing at the bottom above Morrissey's name; a legal warning around the bottom edge.

UK cassette [Parlophone TCPCSD163]
The cassette artwork is a cropped variation of the usual front artwork, with only the album title and Parlophone logo at the bottom in white (view left). The spine and back flap are white with black text. The spine shows mainly the album title in the same font as on the front, with the barcode number at the top and logos for Dolby and Parlophone at the bottom. The barcode is printed sideways in the middle of the back flap, with the first half of the track listing above it, and the second half beneath. There's a Dolby System logo at the very bottom of it. The insert has two extra fold-out panels and the extra space provided by them is used to display the alternate, smiling shot of boxer Cornelius Carr usually found on the back of the LP anc compact disc. The track listing is printed in white at the right of this and the personnel and design credits are printed as a block of white text at the bottom of the second panel. The reverse of the insert parallels the bottom of the LP's inner sleeve and the inner side of the cd insert. It is golden and features the track listing and songwriting/publishing/production credits as a big block of black text, above a one-line Dolby credit, a one-line EMI copyright and a Parlophone logo. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed onto it. The release identification is found top-centre (but no track listing), between the barcode number and EMI copyright on the left and a Parlophone logo in the top right corner above "BIEM/MCPS".

UK CD promo [Parlophone CDRDJ6400]
The release of this album was mainly promoted in the UK with the help of this two-track promo cd and its 7" counterpart described next, both featuring the same unique front artwork (with minor difference in the cropping and relative size and position of the text and logo; view left). The card sleeve opens from the side. Its back is white with just a bit of black text in the top left corner and a Parlophone logo in the bottom left corner. The text consists of the track listing, production and photography credits, EMI copyright and catalogue number. The disc surface is pale red with mostly black text and was modelled on vintage Parlophone labels. There is a large Parlophone logo at the top with "Promotional Copy" printed beneath it; the track listing (including songwriting credits and running times) at the bottom above Morrissey's name; production credits, EMI copyright, publishing info and label code on the left; Parlophone 'pound' logo, catalogue number and Compact Disc logo on the right; legal warning in silver (uncoloured) around the top and bottom edges.
UK 7" promo [Parlophone RDJ6400]
The 7" vinyl counterpart to the promo cd described above features the same unique front artwork, but the image was cropped a bit differently and the text and logo on it vary in position and relative size (view left). The sleeve opens from the side and is indented on the back for better grip on the record. The back is white with a bit of black text in the top left corner and a Parlophone logo in the bottom left corner. The text consists of the track listing, production and photography credits, EMI copyright and catalogue number. The labels are red with mostly black text and were modelled on vintage Parlophone labels. There is a large Parlophone logo at the top with "Promotional Copy" printed beneath it; the title (including songwriting credits and running time) at the bottom above Morrissey's name; production credits, EMI copyright and publishing info on the left; Parlophone 'pound' logo and catalogue numbers on the right; legal warning in white around the top and bottom edges. Looking further than just the packaging, two different variations of this promo 7" have been spotted, one featuring the intended track listing and the other with "Boxers" b/w "Have-A-Go Merchant".
- variation with intended track listing
This variation features the track listing as stated on the labels and the back of the sleeve: "Have-A-Go Merchant" on side A and "Whatever Happens, I Love You" on side B.
RDJ 6400 A-1-1 timtom DAMONT / RDJ 6400 B-1-1 metropolis DAMONT
- 'mispressed' variation
This variation features "Boxers" on side A and "Have-A-Go Merchant" on side B. The only way to recognise it without having to play it is by looking at the matrix numbers stamped between the run-out grooves on both sides. They correspond to the matrix numbers of the standard "Boxers" single. It can be presumed that stock copies of the "Boxers" single, perhaps from leftover stock, were salvaged by having the promo 7" labels stuck on them.
R 6400 A-2-1- / R 6400 B-2-1-
A number of copies were sent out with a sticker on the front of the sleeve giving the contact information of Parlophone pluggers Deslyn Lewis and Kevin McCabe. These may also have a release information sticker on the back of the sleeve (confirmation needed). It is not known if the record inside features the intended music or if it is the 'mispressed' variation of the promo as described above.
UK various artists label sampler [Parlophone CDWK 51]
The releases of this compilation as well as the "Boxers" single were also promoted with the inclusion of "Boxers" on volume 2 of the Parlophone sampler series "A Flavour Of The Label". See the "Boxers" collectors appendix for description.
UK promo poster 76cm x 51cm (30" x 20")
View here. This poster served to promote this album as well as all of Morrissey's earlier albums which were being re-released at the time on the EMI imprint Parlophone.
UK promo advert 40cm x 30cm (16" x 12")
View here. The advert also lists upcoming tour dates because it served to promote the Boxers tour as well as the "World Of Morrissey" album.
UK promo flat
A flat was sent to retail at the time of release of the album. Like most other flats, it is made of card and is the size of a vinyl LP sleeve. This one appears to be one-sided and feature the LP variation of the artwork (confirmation needed).
UK various artists Our Price instore cd [Our Price]
The release of this album was also also promoted with the inclusion of "Boxers", "You're The One For Me, Fatty", "Certain People I Know", "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys", "Have-A-Go Merchant" and "My Love Life" on an instore cd meant to be played in shops of the Our Price chain. The cd contains one track only, lasting over an hour and meant to sound like a radio broadcast: "Hello, I'm Mark Goddier, here are this week's new releases..." The disc is white with black text and logos. The Our Price logo is at the top, "New Releases" at the bottom, a Compact Disc logo on the left above Disctronics logo and slogan, and date (30 January 1995) and promo warning on the right. The disc comes in a white card sleeve with almost the same text on both sides: Our Price logo at the top, "New Releases" in the middle and Disctronics logo and slogan at the bottom. One side also has a phone number at the bottom.
UK various artists covermount cd [Q Magazine]
The release of the "World Of Morrissey" compilation was also promoted via the inclusion of album track "Spring-Heeled Jim" on "World Of Noise", a cd given away with the May 1995 issue of Q Magazine. Morrissey's name appears on the front of the insert next to the front artwork (alongside the names of other featured artists). The song is mentioned in the track listing on the back and on the black and white disc as well as inside the booklet next to a reproduction of the cover artwork for "World Of Morrissey".
§
UK reference cassette [Parlophone]
This cassette served inhouse reference purposes although it is often listed as a promotional item. It comes in a normal clear plastic cassette case with generic black and white Parlophone insert. The front of the insert has Morrissey's name and the album title at the top, above the track listing for side A and the catalogue number for the UK cd. There's a Parlophone logo in the bottom right corner above the words "The Tape". The spine shows a big Parlophone logo next to Morrissey's name and the album title one above the other. The back flap only has a Parlophone logo and the label's contact information in London. The insert presumably has one extra fold-out panel featuring the track listing for side B (this is stated on the front) and perhaps a bit of release identification (confirmation needed). The cassette itself is a generic Chrome Super II made of black plastic and bearing a white sticker label with only Morrissey's name on it.
Argentina CD [EMI-Odeon 832448-2]
The front of the Argentina cd is just like the front of its UK counterpart, but much darker (view left). The tint of the back image is also darker than in the UK, and changes were made to the text. The track listing is printed in a bigger font, the two logos were reversed in their position and the 1-line EMI copyright was replaced with a paragraph of EMI-Odeon credits in Spanish. The barcode is also a complex one with compartments around it, but these compartments are not the same as in the UK: one above with the barcode number as usual, one stating "F: PM" beneath, another one stating "Impresso en Argentina" also beneath, and the usual sideways one on the right with an additional EMI logo inside it. The inner side and back of the insert as well as the spines are the same as in the UK. The disc looks like the UK one, it is black with grey text, a yellow Parlophone logo at the top and the track listing in the bottom half. It differs from the UK disc by a shorter EMI copyright on the left (2 lines instead of 4), fewer content on the right (only the Compact Disc logo and barcode number retained), and EMI-Odeon credits all around the edge. The cd tray is transparent and the text-less shot of a smiling Cornelius Carr can be seen through it when the disc is taken out.
Australia CD [EMI Australia 832448-2]
The Australian compact disc differs from the UK one by only a few details on the back and on the disc. The front, back and inner side of the front insert as well as the spines are exactly the same. The differences on the back are all found around the barcode: the "I:" and "F:" compartments were left empty and the words "Printed in UK" were omitted. Everything but the Compact Disc logo and the barcode on the right side of the disc was replaced with a Digital Audio Technologies Australia logo.
Australia cassette [EMI Australia 832448-4]
Information needed.
Brazil CD [EMI 832448-2]
The front of the Brazilian cd insert is the same as in the UK (view left). The back differs by the barcode (a simpler one without compartments around it), the switch of the Parlophone logo for an EMI one, the presence of an additional logo related to the conservation of the Amazon (to the right of the Compact Disc logo; shows a bird) and more extensive Portuguese credits at the bottom. The spine shows the album title with the barcode on the right like on many other editions, but one of them has an additional EMI logo on the right while the other spine has the EMI logo on the left and a white box on the right with the number "AA0001000" printed in black inside it. The insert opens on the usual track listing printed as a big paragraph of black text over a golden background, just like in the UK, but there is an additional EMI logo to the left of the Parlophone one and an additional line beneath the EMI copyright giving the publishing numbers of all the songs featured on the album. Just like most other editions, the cd tray is transparent so a repeat of the back image is visible through it when the disc is taken out. The disc in question was modelled on the British one. It is also black with grey text and a yellow Parlophone logo at the top and the track listing in the bottom half above Morrissey's name. The EMI copyright on the left was not touched but logos for Compact Disc and EMI were added beneath it. Everything on the right side of the disc was omitted. Brazilian credits and a reproduction warning are printed in Portuguese around the disc's edge.
Brazil LP [EMI Odeon 832448-1]
The outer and inner sleeves of the Brazilian LP were closely modelled on their UK equivalents but the tint of the images is more golden in Brazil. That excepted, the front of the sleeve shows the exact same artwork, text and logo as in the UK (view left). A few changes were made to the back artwork. The barcode was changed for a simpler one, an EMI logo was added to the left of the Parlophone one and an additional EMI Odeon credit in Portuguese was added beneath the usual EMI copyright. The record is slipped inside a clear anti-static inner sleeve and then inside a replica of the British picture inner sleeve which only differs from its UK counterpart by the catalogue number at the bottom of the text side, by the absence of an indentation to facilitate access to the record and by the fact that the record comes out of its top. The labels are black with grey text and a grey Parlophone logo at the top, above the album title. The track listing takes most of the bottom half and the titles in it are followed by their publishing number and songwriting credits. Beneath it are found a few additional lines of credits. There's a string of number on the left, the catalogue numbers on the right and a legal warning in Portuguese around the edge.

Brazil promo CD [EMI PP0037 2]
The release of this compilation was promoted in Brazil with the inclusion of the song "Boxers" on a 14-track various artists EMI sampler cd titled "Promo Dial 9". The cd comes in a thin jewelcase. The front of the insert shows the outline of a white globe over a black background. The words "April 95" and "Promo Dial 9" are printed in yellow over it, and a yellow EMI logo is found at the bottom. The spine is yellow with black text: title on the left, date in the centre and catalogue number on the right. The back flap shows the sampler's track listing in yellow over black. Additional information is welcome.
Brazil promo CD [EMI PP0038 2]
The release of the "World Of Morrissey" compilation was also promoted in Brazil with the inclusion of the song "Boxers" on another various artists EMI sampler cd, this one titled "Promo $ale". The cd comes in a thin jewelcase. The front of the insert shows only the words "EMI" and "PROMO $ALE" in big yellow letters over a black background. Additional information is welcome.
Canada CD [Sire/Reprise CDW-45879]
The front of the Canadian cd shows the American variation of the compact disc artwork which lacks the Parlophone logo beneath the album title (view left). Just like in the USA, the back shows the usual smiling shot of boxer Cornelius Carr with the track listing printed over it in a bolder font than in the UK, and the barcode was moved to the bottom left corner, with logos for Sire, Reprise and Compact Disc above it and local credits beneath it (view left). The spines are dark brown with white text: album title at the centre between the Canadian catalogue number on the left and "Sire/Reprise" on the right. The insert was adapted from the American one which was in turn modelled on the UK one but it is more glossy than anywhere else. Its back also shows the smiling image of Cornelius Carr with four lines of personnel and design credits in white at the bottom, but the catalogue number found at the end of those credits in the UK or the USA was omitted. Inside is found the track listing printed as a big block of black text over a golden background. The song titles in it are printed in bold and are followed by their songwriting, production and publishing credits. Beneath that large paragraph is a brief Sire credit on the left and small Sire and Reprise logos on the right. The Canadian catalogue number was also added in the bottom left corner. The disc is black with the album title in yellow in the top half and the track listing in white in the bottom half. Sire, Reprise and Compact Disc logos are found on the left above the Canadian catalogue number and Warner Music Canada/Sire credits on the right. Just like most other editions, the cd tray is transparent so a repeat of the back image is visible through it when the disc is taken out.
Canada CD [Columbia House W2 45879; record club edition]
This record club edition differs from the standard retail edition described above by a few details here and there on the disc and its packaging. The front remained unchanged, but the barcode on the back and the credits beneath it were changed to take into account the involvement of Columbia House. The catalogue number on the spine was changed for the Columbia House one. The latter number is also found in the bottom left corner beneath the block of credits inside the open insert. The Sire/Reprise catalogue number was removed from beneath the 3 logos on the left-hand side of the disc and the Columbia House catalogue number was added above the block of credits on the right-hand side, which were incidentally also adapted for Columbia House.
Canada cassette [Sire/Reprise 24 58794]
The front of the Canadian cassette shows the same artwork as the front of its American counterpart (view left). The rest of the insert follows closely the American design, with a few minor alterations made here and there. The spines and back flap are white with black text. The album title appears at the centre of the spine in the same font as on the front, with the Canadian catalogue number at the top and logos for Sire, Reprise and Dolby at the bottom. The back flap is slightly narrower than the rest of the insert. The barcode is printed sideways in the middle of it, with the first half of the track listing above it, the second half beneath and a sideways 4-line Warner Music Canada credit next to it. The insert has two extra fold-out panels and, just like in the UK and the USA, the extra space provided by them is used to display the alternate, smiling shot of boxer Cornelius Carr usually found on the back of the LPs and compact discs. The track listing is printed in white over the right side of it and the personnel and design credits are printed as a block of white text at the bottom of the second panel. These credits were not altered but just like in the USA they are printed here in a bolder font than in the UK. The reverse of the insert parallels the reverse of the UK insert, with black text over a golden background. It features the track listing and songwriting/publishing/production credits as a big block of black text, above a one-line Sire/Reprise copyright, a one-line Dolby/HX PRO credit copyright and logos for Sire and Reprise. The cassette itself is made of black plastic with pale grey text printed directly onto it. Morrissey's name, the album title and the track listing are found at the top on each side, the Canadian catalogue number on the left between Sire and Reprise logos, a Dolby logo on the right beneath the side number and Sire credits at the bottom.
§
Canada press release
Copies of the Canadian cd were mailed out to media and/or retail with a black and white press release from Warner Music Canada. The press release is bilingual and appears to be letter-size. It has a Warner Music Canada logo at the top next to the header "New Release / Nouveautés". Under the date "January 22th, 1995" are given the album's technical data (title, catalogue number, suggested listing price for the two formats, release date, etc). The bottom half features mainly biographical and discographical information in paragraph form. Additional information is welcome.
Chile cassette [EMI 105 832448]
The front of this edition shows a variation of the usual cassette artwork on which the cover star was cropped more closely and appears in a slightly yellow shade. There is no Parlophone logo at the bottom of it and the album title appears bigger and is split over two lines. The only other similarity with the UK cassette edition is the extra insert panel showing a different shot of the cover star (although once again it was cropped differently and is of a different, slightly yellow shade). The spine is black with white text. The album title is at the centre, with an EMI logo at the top and the catalogue number at the bottom beneath a Dolby logo. The back flap is mustard yellow and features a barcode in the centre, with the track listing split over its left and right sides. The reverse of the insert shows the usual song-by-song credits, but in black over white. There are more credits added at the bottom, and again on the right side on the reverse of the back flap. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed directly onto it. The track listing is found at the top on each side, EMI and Dolby logos on the left, the side number and the catalogue number on the right, and an EMI copyright and warning at the bottom.
Europe CD [Disky VI 649062]
The album was re-released in 2002 as a budget cd on the EMI sub-label Disky. The release was manufactured in the Netherlands (as stated at the bottom of the back inlay), presumably for distribution over most of mainland Europe. The front artwork shows the same image as before, but there is no Parlophone logo and the album title is printed in a bigger and slightly different white font (view left). The back features the same alternate, smiling shot of boxer Cornelius Carr as before, with the track listing in white on the right. The barcode in the bottom right corner was changed for a simpler one. There are four lines of Disky and EMI credits to the left of it (including "Printed in EU") and the Disky logo, catalogue number and label code were added to the bottom left corner. The spines are brown with white text. The album title appears on each of them in a white font that's slightly different to the original one, with the Disky catalogue number on the left. The insert is similar to the original one. The back of it still shows the smiling shot of Cornelius Carr with 4 lines of personnel and design credits as well as the catalogue number at the bottom, but this text appears in a slightly different white font and the catalogue number was obviously changed for the new one. The inner side of the insert is still gold with a block of black text consisting of the track listing with songwriting/production/publishing credits, but once again the font was changed for a slightly different one. The EMI credit at the bottom was retained, but not the Parlophone logo. The disc was completely redesigned. It is beige with the title at the top in white. In the bottom half are found the black and white Disky and Compact Disc logos, the black Disky catalogue number and a black and white label code. A promo warning ending with "Made In EU" is printed around the top edge. Despite this being a budget edition, the cd tray is still transparent and the text-less shot of a smiling Cornelius Carr can be seen through it, behind the disc.
Holland/EU CD [EMI 832448-2]
This edition, made in Holland for the general European market, differs from the UK cd by only a few details here and there. The front artwork is exactly the same as in the UK (view left). Actually the complete booklet/insert was not altered. In original editions the back insert was exactly the same as in the UK but on later editions "Printed in UK" beneath the barcode was changed to "Printed In EU". A similar correction was made on the disc (of early and late editions), as "Made In The UK" was changed to "Made in Holland". The only other change made to the disc is in the credit for the musical rights societies, from "BIEM/MCPS" to "Biem/Stemra". The spines and the image visible through the transparent cd tray were not altered.
Holland cassette [EMI 832448-4]
Cassettes were never a popular format in Holland so the existence of this Holland cassette is a bit unexpected. It was presumably manufactured to be sold in most of mainland Europe, though not in Holland. It differs from its UK counterpart only in the cassette itself. The insert is exactly the same as the UK insert (see description above). Even "Printed In UK" next to the barcode was left untouched. The cassette is also made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed onto it. Most of this text is the same as on the UK cassette, in the same layout, but it is printed in a different font. The main difference is that instead of having "BIEM/MCPS" and "Made in the UK" on the right, it has "BIEM/STEMRA" and "Made In Holland" on the left.
Indonesia cassette [EMI/Aquarius Musikindo 7243 8324484 3/E0570]
This unlicensed edition features the usual UK cassette artwork on the front, without the Parlophone logo at the bottom and with the additional words "Hanya Untuk Dijual Di Indonesia" printed in black at the top. The spine was adapted from the UK one, but "E0570" was added to the catalogue number at the top and the only logo at the bottom is a black EMI one. The back flap was also modelled on its UK counterpart, but the barcode lacks the four boxes on the side and an additional Aquarius Musikindo licensing credit was added at the bottom. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed directly onto it. Album identification and track listing are found at the top of it on each side, EMI logo on the left and catalogue number on the right.
Italy CD [EMI 832448-2]
The front of the Italian compact disc is the same as in the UK and Holland (view left). The back differs from its UK counterpart only beneath the barcode where "Printed in UK" was changed to "Printed in Italy". The cd tray is transparent like almost everywhere else, so when the disc is taken out, the text-less back artwork image is visible through it (view left). Information about the inner side and back of the front insert as well as the disc is needed.
Japan CD [Toshiba EMI TOCP-8520]
The Japanese cd features the usual compact disc artwork on the front, without a Parlophone logo but with the Japanese catalogue number printed in black in the bottom right corner (view left). The back was modelled on the back of the UK cd but there is no barcode. Besides the track listing in the usual position, the only other text are English and Japanese EMI credits at the very bottom and logos for EMI and Compact Disc in the bottom right corner. The spines are black with white text. Both state the album title and the catalogue number, but the left one does it in Japanese and the right one in English. The obi is tan/beige with mostly black and a bit of red text. The back of the obi features a bilingual track listing and the barcode. Unlike other editions, the front insert is actually a proper booklet. It opens on a black and white bilingual track listing, followed by four black and white pages of Japanese text, presumably a Morrissey biography. On the following three black and white pages are found the lyrics for the album's first four songs minus "Jack The Ripper", one song per page, in English side-by-side with Japanese. The following two pages are the middle ones and they replicate the UK insert's inner side, with the extensive track listing + song credits in black over a golden background, but without the Parlophone logo. Lyrics for the rest of the album (with the exception of "Sister I'm A Poet" and "Moonriver") are printed in black and white over the remaining eight pages, again in English and Japanese side-by-side. Like everywhere else the back of the booklet shows the back shot of a smiling Cornelius Carr with four lines of personnel and design credits in white at the bottom. In this particular case there is an additional 1-line Toshiba-EMI credit and an EMI logo at the very bottom. The disc is black with pale grey text and a grey EMI logo at the top. An EMI copyright is found on the left; a Compact Disc logo, the catalogue numbers, a Toshiba-EMI credit and a Jasrac logo on the right; the track listing at the bottom above Morrissey's name; a legal warning in English around the bottom edge. The cd tray is transparent like almost everywhere else, so when the disc is taken out, the text-less back artwork image can be seen through it.

Japan CD promo [Toshiba EMI TOCP-8520]
Promo copies are stock ones with a white and red promo sticker on the back tray insert and the words "Sample Not For Sale" stamped in black around the disc's inner ring.
Malaysia cassette [EMI 8324484]
The Malaysia cassette insert shows the UK cassette artwork (view left) on the front, without the Parlophone logo. The spine is white and shows mainly the album title in the same font as on the front, but in black, with the catalogue number at the top and an EMI logo at the bottom. The back flap differs from its UK counterpart by the missing 4 boxes to the right of the barcode and the missing Dolby logo at the bottom. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed onto it: album identification and track listing at the top, EMI logo and catalogue number on the left.
Mexico CD [??]
Information needed.
Peru cassette [EMI FE 02.0450]
The front of the insert of the Peruvian cassette shows the same front artwork as in the UK (view left), but changes were made to the rest of it. The spine and back flap are white with black text and logos. The album title is printed in the middle of the spine in an unrelated font, with an EMI logo at the top and the catalogue number at the bottom. The track listing is printed on the back flap as a plain block of text, above two lines of local credits. The insert has one extra fold-out panel. It is white and features a detailed track listing that includes running times and songwriting credits for every song. The reverse of the insert is all white except for a generic 'no-reproduction' warning in Spanish behind the back flap. The cassette is made of clear plastic and bears paper labels of yellow lines and black text and logos. The album title is found top-centre on each side, an EMI logo and the catalogue number on the right, and a local credit and reproduction warning at the bottom.
South Africa CD [EMI CDEMCJ(WI)5592]
This edition shows the UK variation of the artwork on the front. The barcode and credits on the back were adapted and two logos were added to the left of the usual ones (including a red EMI logo). As would be expected, the catalogue number on the spine and on the back of the booklet was changed for the South African one. The usual paragraph of tracks and credits is printed in black over gold inside the booklet, as in the UK, but it was moved at the top and an additional publishing credit was added above the copyright line. The disc looks from a distance just like the British one, but the paragraph of credits on the left was adapted, the South African catalogue number was added above it, the text on the right side was removed, leaving only the compact disc logo. Two logos including the EMI one were added on the right side above the track listing. Finally, the warning printed around the disc's edge was also adapted.

Taiwan CD [EMI 832448-2; 1995 edition]
The first of three known Taiwanese editions of "World Of Morrissey" shows the usual compact disc artwork on the front (view left). The back differs from the back of the UK cd only in the omission of the Parlophone logo and the absence of compartments beneath the barcode. The spine is identical to the UK spines. Just like most other editions, the cd tray is transparent so a repeat of the back image is visible through it when the disc is taken out. The obi around this edition is white with black text and a mauve star at the top of the front side. The back of it shows what appears to be a Morrissey bio above the barcode and local credits. Information about the insert(s) and disc is needed.
Taiwan CD [EMI 832448-2; 2001 edition]
This 2001 reissue is expected to differ from the original 1995 one only in its obi (confirmation needed). The front, spine and transparent back tray are indeed confirmed as the same. The new obi is red on the front and spine, with bilingual black text and a yellow sphere at the top with "2001" inside it. The back of the obi is two shades of blue and stretches over the complete back space. The left half of it was used to advertise new releases by other artists while the right half features what looks like a 2-paragraph bio above the album's track listing, the barcode and EMI Taiwan credits. Information about the insert(s) and disc is needed.
Taiwan CD [EMI 832448-2; 2003 edition]
This 2003 reissue is also expected to differ from the two earlier ones only in its obi (confirmation needed). The front, spine and transparent back tray are indeed confirmed as the same. The front and spine of the new obi is red with mostly black text and a yellow EMI Gold crest at the top. The back of this edition is also of full width. The EMI Gold crest is repeated in the top left corner, next to yellow and white text in Taiwanese. Beneath that are found the track listing in English and four paragraphs of black Taiwanese text (presumably artist information). EMI Taiwan and Virgin logos and credits are printed in white at the very bottom, to the right of the barcode. Information about the insert(s) and disc is needed.
Thailand cassette [Parlophone 8324484-3]
The design of the insert of the Thailand cassette was presumably recorded from the UK cd. The usual cd artwork is shown on the front over a black background above and below, but the cd image overlaps onto a part of the insert's first extra fold-out panel. The smiling boxer image with a few lines of personnel and packaging credits from the back of the UK cd insert is reproduced here sideways over the rest of the insert's first panel and the whole second panel. The spine and back flap are black with white text. The spine shows mainly the album title in the same font and colour as on the front, with a Parlophone logo at the top and the barcode number at the bottom. The track listing is printed on the back flap above a 2-line EMI copyright. Because this cassette was manufactured from a cd and not a cassette, the cut in the track listing was not respected and side A features the album's first nine songs, leaving only five for side B. The block of text consisting mainly of the track listing which is usually found inside the cd insert is reproduced here in white over black over the reverse of the insert. The cassette is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed directly on it. The album title and the track listing are found at the top on each side, a 'simulated' Parlophone logo and the catalogue number on the left, and a 2-line EMI copyright at the bottom.
Thailand cassette [K 730]
This alternate Thai edition looks clearly more like an unofficial release than the one above. The insert shows the usual artwork on the front, over a white background. Morrissey's name appears in blue above it and the album title in red beneath. Those two bits of album identification are repeated in the same font and colour on the spine, with the catalogue number in black at the bottom. The album's track listing is printed in black and white on the back flap, without any barcode or credits. The insert does not include any extra panel. The cassette is made of smokey clear plastic with a bit of text printed in a dark pink script font onto it. None of this text relates to the content. The only release-related info on the cassette itself, the number "#730", is found on a small sticker on one side.
USA CD [Sire/Reprise 9 45879-2]
The American compact disc features the usual artwork on the front, but the text is slightly bigger than in the UK and there is no Parlophone logo (view left). The back shows the same smiling take of Cornelius Carr but the track listing is printed in a bolder font and the barcode was moved to the bottom left corner (view left). Above the barcode are found logos for Sire, Reprise and Compact Disc and beneath it are four lines of Sire credits and a 2-line warning. The spines are dark brown with white text: album title at the centre between the catalogue number on the left and "Sire/Reprise" on the right. The insert was modelled on the UK one. Its back also shows the smiling image of Cornelius Carr with four lines of personnel and design credits in white at the bottom, but the catalogue number at the end of those credits was changed to the American one. Inside is found the track listing printed as a big block of black text over a golden background. The song titles in it are printed in bold and are followed by their songwriting, production and publishing credits. Beneath that large paragraph is a brief Sire credit on the left and small Sire and Reprise logos on the right. The disc is black with the album title in yellow in the top half and the track listing in white in the bottom half. Sire, Reprise and Compact Disc logos are found on the left and Sire/Reprise credits and catalogue number on the right. Just like most other editions, the cd tray is transparent so a repeat of the back image is visible through it when the disc is taken out.
USA CD [BMG Direct D108125; record club edition]
The main difference between this record club edition and the standard retail one described above is the fact that it was manufactured in a regular jewel case instead of one with a transparent tray, which means that no image is seen behind the disc when it is taken out. The front artwork was not altered. Like most other BMG Direct compact discs, there is no barcode on the back and the white box in which it is usually found contains the BMG Direct catalogue number and address. The insert is the same as in the standard edition except for the BMG Direct catalogue number printed in black on the right side above the paragraph of credits at the bottom. The spines were not altered. The only change made to the disc was the addition of a BMG Direct credit and catalogue number in white on the left side beneath the logos.
USA cassette [Sire/Reprise 9 45879-4]
The American cassette shows the same artwork on the front of its insert as in the UK, but the text is positioned a bit differently and there is no Parlophone logo (view left). The rest of the insert follows closely the UK design, with a few minor alterations made here and there to take into account the involvement of Sire and Reprise. The spines and back flap are white with black text. The album title appears at the centre of the spine in the same font as on the front, with the American catalogue number at the top and logos for Sire, Reprise and Dolby at the bottom. The barcode is printed sideways in the middle of the back flap, with the first half of the track listing above it, and the second half beneath. The insert has two extra fold-out panels and, just like in the UK, the extra space provided by them is used to display the alternate, smiling shot of boxer Cornelius Carr usually found on the back of the LP and compact disc. The track listing is printed in white over the right side of it and the personnel and design credits are printed as a block of white text at the bottom of the second panel. These credits were not altered but are printed here in a bolder font than in the UK. The reverse of the insert also parallels the reverse of the UK insert, with an extensive track listing printed in black over a golden background. Each song in the track listing is printed in bold and followed by its songwriting, publishing and production credits. The label credits within the track listing and at the bottom were changed for Sire ones, and the Dolby credit was extended with ones for HX PRO. Finally, in place of the Parlophone logo in the bottom right corner are found the American catalogue number and logos for Sire and Reprise. The cassette itself is made of clear plastic with text printed in pale grey directly onto it. The track listing appears at the top on each side, the catalogue number on the left between Sire and Reprise logos and a Sire/Reprise credit at the bottom of side two.
USA cassette [BMG Direct C108125; record club edition]
This record club edition differs from the standard retail edition described above by a few details on the spine and back flap of the insert, the reverse of the insert and also perhaps on the cassette. The barcode on the back was replaced by the BMG Direct catalogue number and address. The BMG Direct catalogue number was also added on the spine beneath the usual Sire/Reprise one. The text on the reverse of the insert is the same as inside the retail edition but it is printed in white over black. The front of the insert including its five extra panels were left unchanged. Differences are expected with the cassette itself (information needed).

USA CD promo [Sire/Reprise 9 45879-2]
The release of the "World Of Morrissey" compilation in the USA was mainly promoted with stock copies of the compact disc stamped with a promo warning in gold on the front of the insert.
USA cassette promo [Sire/Reprise 4-45879-A]
Limited advance promotion was done via this advance cassette featuring the complete album. The cassette is made of clear plastic with white text: Morrissey's name and the album title at the top, catalogue number on the left, side identification on the right, and Dolby logo, WEA Manufacturing Inc credit and Digalog logo at the bottom. The front of the generic blue promotional insert gives Morrissey's name and the album title above the track listing for side one on the left and side two on the right, and "Reprise Records" in the bottom left corner. Morrissey's name and the compilation title are repeated on the spine, next to the catalogue number and logos for Sire and Reprise. The back flap only has a promo warning and the telephone number for WEA Manufacturing Inc.
USA various artists promo cd [Sire/Reprise PRO-CD-7520]
The release of this compilation as well as that of the "Boxers" single were also promoted with the inclusion of "Boxers" on "Greetings From Area 51", a 9-track various artists sampler from Reprise. See the "Boxers" collectors appendix for description.
USA press photo
The release of the album was also promoted with the help of this 8"x 10" black and white publicity photo (view here) which was very likely mailed out with the promo cd and/or advance cassette described above. The image is the same one featured on the front of the American edition of the just released "Boxers" single.
USA promo flat
A 2-sided promotional flat was sent to American retail at the time of release of the album. Like most other flats, it is made of card and is the size of a vinyl LP sleeve. One side features the UK LP variation of the artwork without the Parlophone logo (view here; better image needed). The reverse shows a mirror image of the same boxer artwork, faded into a beige background to the point that it is barely visible. Morrissey's name is printed in large white letters across the middle of it and there are very small black Sire/Reprise logos and credits at the very bottom (image needed).
USA promo poster 46cm x 61cm (18" x 24")
View here. The text on the left side states "14 Tracks including: 3 New Songs Singles Live Recordings & Classic Album Tracks". Small Sire/Reprise logos and credit are printed in white in the bottom left corner. The image is a cropped version of the one having just appeared on the front of the American edition of the "Boxers" single.
USA promo advert 25cm x 33cm (10" x 13")
View here. The text beneath the title is the track listing and small Sire/Reprise logos and credit are printed in black at the very bottom.
USA various artists promo CD [hu H HAO104D]
The release of this compilation album was also promoted with the inclusion of "Boxers" on volume 4 of the "hu H" promo cd series. There appears to be two different variations of this cd, featuring the same artwork but different track listings. "Boxers" is found on both variations, in one case at the top of the track listing, and in the other at the end. The packaging is a FLP digipack with a grey locking plastic flap to hold the front panel shut. The front artwork is black with "hu H" in big blue letters that have yellow arms coming out of them. On the back are black and maroon "hu H" graphics with "CD 4" in a black ring over them. The reverse of the front panel shows a big "H" in varying tones of blue and mauve, with the track listing printed in black over it. The track listing is repeated on the left half of the disc, over its background of pink "hu H" graphics.

USA proof sheet of compact disc artwork
A Cromalin colour proof sheet of the compact disc artwork has made it into the hands of collectors. It shows the two sides of the back tray artwork and the two sides of the unfolded insert on a white sheet, with cutting marks around them, colour bars at the top and a bit of technical data beneath each surface.
USA CD in rejected or proof artwork [Sire/Reprise 9 45879-2]
The existence of what may be a 'proof' edition of this cd has been reported. Unlike other proofing material, this is not a printed sheet but an actual recreated package, with booklet, back insert and cd-r disc inside a cd case. It shows the usual artwork on the front and back, but the barcode on the back is different and positioned in the bottom right corner, and the compact disc logo is a made-up black and white one (probably a temporary placeholder until the artist got their hands on an official logo). The remainder of the text and logos are the same as on the definitive version. An additional number-less barcode is found inside a white box in the top right corner on the back of the booklet. The disc shows the usual text in the usual layout, but a number-less barcode was added at the bottom beneath the credits and again the compact disc logo is a made-up black and white one. Also, the last two words of the title "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys" are printed in a smaller font.
(unknown) cassette [(no label) No. 5330]
This clearly unlicensed cassette of unknown origin shows the American compact disc variation of the artwork on the front, over a white background, with Morrissey's name above in blue and the album title beneath in red. The latter text is repeated in the same font and colours on the white spine, with the catalogue number in black at the bottom. The back flap features only the track listings for sides A and B in black over white. The cassette is made of clear plastic and has absolutely nothing printed on it.
