"Pregnant For The Last Time"
collectors appendix
UK 7" [HMV POP1627]
The UK 7" comes in a rigid glossy sleeve opening from the side, with a semi-circle cut-out portion on the back for better grip on the record (view front and back artwork from the menu on the left). The record has a solid centre, but there are two different versions of it:
- paper labels edition
This edition has vintage reddish-pink His Master's Voice paper labels with black text and logos. A His Masters Voice logo is found at the top, publishing info, the catalogue number and EMI copyright on the left, "45 R.P.M.", catalogue number and production credits on the right, and title at the bottom.
POP 1627 A-1U-1-1 / POP 1627 B-1U-1-1
- injection-moulded labels edition
This odd variation appears to be slightly more common than the one above, but it is still more sought after by collectors because it is one of only three Morrissey 7" singles to have been pressed this way (the other two being "Sing Your Life" and "My Love Life"). The labels are silver with black text, featuring a His Master's Voice logo at the top, the catalogue number, EMI copyright and engineering credit on the left, the catalogue number, publishing info and production credit on the right, release identification at the bottom.
POP 1627 A-1U-1-1-Q3 / POP 1627 B-1U-1-1-Q3
UK 12" [HMV 12POP1627]
The front artwork of the 12" format is very slightly different to that of the 7", in the way the image is cropped and in the relative position of Morrissey's name (see left). The back shows the same image detail, but the catalogue numbers were changed and the track listing and credits had to be adapted for this format's two bonus tracks (view left). The record is slipped inside a black poly-lined paper inner sleeve It has pink vintage His Master's Voice labels with black text: His Masters Voice logo at the top; catalogue number and EMI copyright on the left; "45 R.P.M.", catalogue number and production credits on the right; titles, songwriting and publishing credits at the bottom.

UK CD5 [HMV CDPOP1627]
The cd-single comes in a thin jewel case. This format's J-card insert shows a bit more of the front image than on the front of the other formats (view left). The spine is dark purple with very pale pink text consisting of Morrissey's name and "Pregnant For The Last Time" on the left and the catalogue number on the right. The back flap is also dark purple, it features a barcode in the centre, with pink text on each side: 5 lines of EMI credits and manufacturing information on the left and the UK and Euro catalogue numbers on the right. The insert's reverse was adapted from the 7" and 12" back artwork (view left). The disc is black with silver text and made to look like the labels of the vinyl formats: a His Masters Voice logo at the top; Euro catalogue number, publishing info, EMI copyright and UK catalogue number on the left; "CD" graphics in the style of the vinyl's "45 RPM", compact disc logo, production credits, "BIEM/MCPS" and label code on the right; titles and songwriting credits at the bottom; legal warning around the edge.
UK CSS [HMV TCPOP1627]
Morrissey went for a relatively different design for the cassette single format. The usual front artwork image is set in the middle on the front of the insert, over a purple and pink background, with Morrissey's name at the top in pink and a pink His Master's Voice logo at the bottom (view left). The spine is purple with paler pink text: Morrissey's name in the same font as on the front and "Pregnant For The Last Time", with the catalogue number at the top and a His Master's Voice logo at the bottom. The back is also purple and the text is mid-pink. It shows a small barcode at the centre, with a sideways Euro catalogue number on the right and two lines of EMI/printing/manufacturing credits beneath. The usual back artwork image is spread over the insert's two extra panels, with the usual blue track listing and credits justified at the centre of the first panel (view left). The cassette itself is made of clear plastic with pale grey text printed directly onto it. It features, amongst other things, the catalogue number in the top left corner, the track listing top-centre and a His Master's Voice logo in the top right corner.

UK 7" promo [HMV POPDJ1627]
Just like "Piccadilly Palare", "Our Frank" and "Sing Your Life" before and the upcoming "My Lofe Life" single, "Pregnant For The Last Time" was mainly promoted with the help of a promo 7" with retro "A" labels inside a His Master's Voice record bag from the 1960s. This die-cut bag and the a-side label for this single are displayed in the image gallery (view left). The b-side label is similar to the a-side one, it features old-fashioned notes such as "non-breakable", "demonstration record", "recording first published 1991" as well as the release date beneath the hole, but it does not have the tall red "A" across it. Some copies come with a "RD 15.7" release info sticker on one side of the sleeve mentioning the success of the American tour and announcing upcoming British dates and a green Capitol Parlophone plugger sticker on the other side giving the contact information for plugger Helena Pennant Jones.

UK 7" promo [HMV POP1627]
The single was also promoted via stock copies of the 7" with release info and/or plugger sticker on the sleeve. Two different variations have been reported. One has a release info sticker on the front, mentioning the success of the American tour and announcing upcoming British dates (the same as on the DJ promo sleeve mentioned above). There may or may not be a plugger sticker on the other side of the sleeve and the type of label is unknown (info needed). The other variation has a silver label and the release info sticker is a different one stating that Morrissey is "currently touring America" and announcing upcoming British tour dates. It is found on the back of the sleeve along with another sticker giving the contact information for Capitol Parlophone pluggers Lynn Evans and Deslyn Lewis.
UK CD5 promo [HMV CDPOP1627]
Stock compact discs have been seen on the collectors market with a white and red "Manufacturers Property Not For Sale" sticker on the back of the case. It is not known whether or not these are officially sanctioned by the record label.
UK promo video [In Phase]
The release of "Pregnant For The Last Time" was also promoted with the help of this one-track promo video sent to the relevent media. The videocassette has generic white In Phase labels on top and spine, with green In Phase logo and Morrissey's name and "Pregnant For The Last Time" printed in black. The cassette comes in a generic card slipcase. The pre-video credits state that the cassette features "version 1" of the video although the existence of alternate versions has never been reported.
UK promo video [Capitol]
This alternate one-track promo video is very likely time-coded and presumably served more limited promotional purposes. Packaging information is needed.

UK cd-single insert proof - rejected
A proof sheet of an early variation of the artwork for the cd-single format has made it into the hands of collectors. It shows the complete insert unfolded, with cutting/folding marks around it and colour reproduction chart at the top. The artwork differs from the final one only in the colour of some of the text and graphic elements. On the front the box around Morrissey's name and the His Master's Voice logo are grey instead of the final pink. The text on the spine is the same deep pink as on the back flap. The text on the inner back is pink and the boxes are grey, instead of the definitive blue.
UK 12" sleeve proof - rejected
A proof sheet of an early variation of the artwork for the 12" format has made it into the hands of collectors. It shows the complete sleeve unfolded. The artwork appears to differ from the final one in the colour of the text and graphic elements on the front and back. The box around Morrissey's name on the front and the His Master's Voice logo are both grey. The text on the back is pink instead of the final blue and the boxes are grey.
UK 12" sleeve proof - rejected
Another proof sheet of an early variation of the artwork for the 12" format has made it into the hands of collectors. It shows the complete sleeve unfolded, with colour reproduction chart at the bottom. The artwork appears to differ from the final one only in the colour of the text and graphic elements on the front: Morrissey's name is pink with a blue shade, the box around it is blue and the His Master's Voice logo in the top right corner is pale grey.
Australia 7" [EMI Australia 2621-7]
This item has never been seen inside a picture sleeve. It has been found in a generic green EMI paper die-cut record bag showing at the top logos of various EMI subsidiaries such as Parlophone, Capitol or His Master's Voice. The labels are beige with black text, with a red EMI logo at the bottom and red legal credits around the top edge.
Australia CSS [EMI 2621-4]
Australia is the only country to have followed the UK in the release of this non-album single, but the only format they put out is this cassette-single. The cassette was sold inside a card slipcase featuring on its front the same artwork as the UK cassingle, without the His Master's Voice logo (view left). Information about the back and spines of this slipcase is needed. The cassette is made of completely transparent plastic, its reels are blue and text is printed in blue directly onto it. The track listing is at the top on each side, a sideways EMI logo on the left, the catalogue number on the right and Dolby plus XDR logos at the bottom (confirmation needed).
