The song was written at the beginning of the recording sessions for the "Vauxhall & I" album which took place between June and August 1993 at Hook End Manor. It was recorded with producer Steve Lillywhite and musicians Boz Boorer (guitar), Alain Whyte (guitar), Jonny Bridgwood (bass) and Woodie Taylor (drums).

This song has never been performed specifically for radio, television or the web.

 

This song has been done in concert 68 times in total by Morrissey. It was played every night without a single break on the 1995 Boxers tour and the tour promoting the release of "Southpaw Grammar" later that year. It was absent from Morrissey's setlist at the start of the subsequent Maladjusted tour in 1997, but returned in later Octobe and was done without a break for the remaining 29 dates. After a break of 15 years, it was played 8 times out of 9 dates on the American East Coast leg of the 2012 tour.
