"Laughing Anne" (Morrissey/Whyte)
This 4:24 instrumental demo was recorded during the December 1994 sessions at Miraval Studios in France, alongside the instrumentals of songs that would within the following year be released on the "Southpaw Grammar" album. However, unlike most other instrumentals recorded during this session, it appears that this one has not been given lyrics by Morrissey and had been dropped by the time the singer properly recorded the "Southpaw Grammar" material at Hook End Manor in the spring of 1995.
This song was never released in a studio form.
This song has never been performed specifically for radio or television.
This song has never been done live, either by the Smiths or Morrissey.
This demo has not yet commonly leaked on bootlegs although it has made its way into the hands of a few fans and collectors. The 3:21 instrumental demo from the 1994 Miraval sessions which leaked on the internet around the turn of the century under the title "Laughing Anne" is actually a demo of a different, unknown song. It has also been seen miscredited as being a demo of "You Should Have Been Nice To Me".
