The song was very likely written during 1996, or at the latest during the recording session for the "Maladjusted" album at Hook End Manor in January 1997, with producer Steve Lillywhite. It was supposedly originally meant to appear on the latter album, but was pushed out of the track listing at some point to make space for "Wide To Receive". Musicians on this recording were Boz Boorer (guitars, perhaps more), Alain Whyte (guitars, perhaps more), Jonny Bridgwood (bass) and Spencer Cobrin (drums).
