29 October 1999 Coliseu Porto, Oporto, Portugal
You're Gonna Need Someone On Your SideMorrissey's first ever concert in Portugal was a success. The man was in a great mood and the audience quite receptive. The setlist was sensibly the same, but "Sunny" was replaced by "November Spawned A Monster". In set opener "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side" Morrissey sang "Someone kindly told me that you collected very sharp knives" which was a change to that period's usual live change "Someone kindly told me that you collected Stanley knives". Because the audience was kept at a distance by a barrier, further down he sang "Oh you don't need to be so far away" instead of "Oh you don't need to look so pleased". Morrissey actually addressed the subject again after "The Boy Racer" when he said "I'm sorry about the barrier, but they don't trust you... that's nothing to do with me... hallo!" In "Is It Really So Strange?" a line was changed to "Oh yes you can chin me, and you can shin me and you can break my spine, but you won't change the way I feel". In live performances of "Hairdresser On Fire" at the time Morrissey usually changed a line to "psychologically shave me", but on this date he actually sang "supernaturally shave me". After "Lost" Morrissey replied to shouts of love with "Thank you, I love you too... I think you came from Barcelona... I think so... I just guess..." Following number "November Spawned A Monster" was very well received and Morrissey acknowledged the audience's appreciation with the words "You're very kind, thank you". After "Now My Heart Is Full" he said "You can have anything you want". Before the band went into encore "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" he had one last word with the audience: "We know you're trapped and we know you can't come closer but thank you for trying and thank you for coming here..."
