unlicensed releases

Releases in Third World countries are usually unlicensed. Rights are not paid to and arrangements are not made with the labels who own the rights to the Smiths' music, Rough Trade (before 1992) or Warner (after 1991). The quality of the packaging for these is often subpar and the musical content is often scrambled or extended with songs from another album/single. Cassettes sold on the streets of Indonesia, Saudi Arabia or Thailand are the best examples. Most of these releases are listed under their respective titles elsewhere in this discography. Whatever can not be listed elsewhere is found here.

A Saudi Arabian "Greatest Hits Of The Smiths" tape housed in a blue box was put together in the late 1980s. It features 26 songs, mostly taken from "The Queen Is Dead", "Strangeways Here We Come" and "Louder Than Bombs". The booklet includes all the lyrics.

A 14-track compilation cassette was released in Indonesia under the title "Smith". Tracks cover mostly the "Meat Is Murder" album plus a few tracks from the self-titled debut.

A 22-track "Very Best Of The Smiths" cassette was released in Indonesia in 1986.

A different 23-track "Very Best Of The Smiths" cassette was also released in Indonesia, probably in the early 1990s.

Russians/Polish flexis
It is near impossible to keep an exhaustive list of these flexis because they exist for most songs of the Smiths' catalogue, each in more than one colour. They are not legal releases, the quality is not very good and songs are often incomplete, they fade out before the end.
