UK 7" [Rough Trade RT200]
View front and back artwork from the menu on the left. The sleeve is thick and glossy and opens from the side. Labels are black with light grey text in the classic Rough Trade layout. There are the two known versions of this format:

  • push-out centre
Initial pressing of the 7" has a push-out centre, as requested by Morrissey.
    RT 200 A1 / RT 200 B1
  • solid centre
Later pressings, or perhaps pressings for a foreign market such as Ireland, have a solid centre.
    RT 200 A-1U-1- / RT 200 B-1U-1-

UK 12" [Rough Trade RTT200]
The 12" features slightly alternate artwork to the 7" format (view front and back from left menu). The labels are also black with light grey text in the classic Rough Trade layout. The inner sleeve is glossy and black. It shows the catalogue number in white in the top right corner.
RTT 200 A1 / RTT 200 B1

UK CD5 [Rough Trade RTT200CD]
This was the first ever UK cd-single for the Smiths. The front and back artwork is based on that of the vinyl formats, with a slightly different text layout (view left). There is no booklet, just a square insert. The back of it features a track listing with song credits. The cd is gold with text printed directly onto it in dark brown.

The existence of an alternate edition with silver cd is rumoured. It also differs from the original gold cd by the lack of the line "Made in the UK" on the cd surface.

UK 12" promo [Rough Trade RTT200]
This single was mainly promoted with white label copies of the 12" format. These may be the most common of all promo white labels of Smiths releases, along with the ones produced for the band's previous UK single. They were usually distributed inside a white paper die-cut bag but some copies might have found themselves paired with a stock record sleeve.

UK 7" promo [Rough Trade RT200]
Stock copies with a plugger sticker on the front were distributed for more limited promotional purposes. The sticker is white with red text and red image of some dancing animal.

UK press release
A Rough Trade press release announcing this single as the Smiths' final one has made it into the hands of collectors. It may have been circulated with either the promo 12" and/or promo 7" described above.

UK proof of 7" sleeve
A proof of the artwork for the UK 7" sleeve has made it to the collectors' market. It shows the unfolded front and back, including the flaps that go from the front over the back, with proofing bar. There doesn't seem to be any difference with the definitive artwork.

UK poster design sheets
This is a set of four unfolded uncut paper printer proofs for different stages of the production process of the 12" x 24" promotional poster described above. These copied black and white pages are 'works in process' showing the outline drawings of cover star Billy Fury and are all prior to colourisation. These being 'working items', they have portions held together with sellotape. All four sheets represent a very early stage of the design as the text layout on them is always somewhat different to the final layout.
